skins wont load

i had winamp 2 then i went to 3 but it was to sluggish and slow so i came back to winamp 2 now my skins wont work right. my skins are going into my playlist. ive tryed to change the extension but i cant change it. when i download a skin it doesnt even put it in my skins folder it just puts it right into my playlist. if anyone can help me please e-mail me with some help.
