Unable To Apply Skins or Play Streaming Audio!
I've used Winamp for about 3 years. This is a first for me. I've un-installed, re-installed both versions. Winamp 2, and 3. Currently I'm using Winamp 3.
When this started I receieved a Critical Error Message, advising that the system recovered from serious error (Winamp). Problem: Unable to play streaming audio. I've tried numerous sites as I'm a radio junkie. I can play internal .mp3's, but no streaming audio. *FROM ANY SITE*. Problem 2: Unable to apply skins. Usually they automatically apply, but i've gone into preferences and went to skins to change. well, no image, unable to change from default. I have no idea what has went wrong, and where. I've even went to the length of system restore.. Again, no luck :cry: Please help!! I need to fix this problem!!! I will even use Pay-Pal if necessary to clear up this problem :eek: OS=Xp MFG= Dell Laptop E-mail = Cloudkidmagic@aol.com |
Man, in this forum people doesn't seem to help too much. I'm just another one looking for help, but with respect to the skins, they didn't worked for me either. I would try to make them work and I would get error messages and sometimes the program crashed. But then when I would put it back on they would work. Did you try closing the program and opening again, or restarting the computer?, that's what I did and they worked.
And with the streaming audio thingy, It doesn't work for me either!!!, neither trying to open mp3's directly from a site. I hope I helped , but I'm as ignorant as you are probably LOL |
@nukleur
For Winamp3 1) Completely uninstall wa3 by: i) Using Add/Remove programs uninstaller ii) Deleting the Winamp3 dir 2) Download & reinstall latest public release of WA3 4) install wa3update For Winamp2 install wa2update If the problem persists, please describe the nature of the problem in as much detail as possible. Describe what happens exactly when you click on a link to a .pls or .m3u stream. Have you tried emptying your internet cache? Are pls & m3u extensions properly associated with Winamp? And is WA2 or WA3 set up as the default? Are you using a proxy connection or behind a firewall? Are your connection settings correct in: WA3 -> Prefs -> Internet, and WA2 -> Prefs -> Setup? As for skins, again, describe the nature of the problem in as much detail as possible. "Don't work" doesn't help us much to help you. Is WAL selected in: WA3 Prefs -> Media (ie. WA3 is properly associated) Are the *.WAL files themselves in the Winamp3\Skins dir? Try my suggestions and, if the problems persists, then please answer all my questions. Quote:

Thankyou
Thanks again Egg. You guys are good. That was a very quick response no matter the frustration it has caused me. I'm a Network Engineer, and respond to 100's of E-mails at work on a "Daily" basis.
I appreciate your response and will save this sucker in notepad for a future reference. :D I don't know what happened and where, but I did a system restore; back to Dec. 8th. Made sure everthing associated with Winamp was uninstalled from my computer, including Temp folders, subfolders, and even did a search for "winamp" to make sure everything was deleted. I decided to install Winamp 2, because it was the last Winamp player to work on my laptop. ( and since their are plenty of skins that I like to choose from compared to 3, and that's obvious b/c it just has came out). I have winamp 3 installed on my PC and love it too. It's ran smooth for years(Winamp). I installed it again on my laptop, tried a streaming link, BOOM! worked, went to the skins page, BOOM!! worked. During the setup I did nothing different than I did before, using LAN as my connection, and unchecking some of the added shortcuts, system tray icons, etc, that I don't need as I have always did during the installation. I appreciate your prompt response for being over a holiday week, and you having to go through your thousands of posts, e-mails. I appreciate even a Feedback from someone from your team. This is one reason I use Winamp. *although paid phone support would be a nice marketing/income for you guys* keep that in mind. hehe Well, it's working now & I have no idea what I did different, I set for hours trying to think What I did differently. :rolleyes: Result = Works Great And like I've said I've used this player for years. It's the only player I will ever use for music. "EVER!!:) FYI: As far as the streaming audio that I listen to, Shoutcast is the site I use. Which I believe is .pls. Winamp has always been my default prog.:) Didn't think about emptying the cache. I usually I'm pretty good at keeping the computer "clean". I go to programs/acc./disk cleanup. I hope that is correct to clear the temp files, cache. As far as the updates for 2, 3. Would it hurt to apply these?? Even though it is working properly. *I guess as a patch?* Thanks again..:D Layne:winamp: |
