It's definitely not in the UK. We don't have road signs at all like that, and our road signs are mostly diagrammatic (i.e. there's no "ONE WAY" written on a one way street sign).

Near to me there's a couple of villages called Cold Christmas, and Noah's Ark. They're pretty cool names...

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap...216215&A=Y&Z=3

As for travelling up the A74 (soon to be M6) into Scotland... there's a multitude of odd place names... like Castlemilk.

smeggle 29th December 2002 12:56

no I think this one begins with an 'F' There's a place in wales called 'Festiniog' ... now theres a one they have some mad names who's from there anyone I think dylman not sure anyway they have the longest named place in the world I think...it's a railway station summit like that.....btw Are they taking the A74 section out all together then? It only runs from north of Carlisle to south of Glasgow..if memory is right but it's like 11-12 years since I was up there!

SSJ4 Gogitta 29th December 2002 13:00

Here in WV, Turtle Creek was, and still IS called: Booger Hole.

We also have a place called Big Ugly.

:weird:

The place in Wales is Lanfair P.G. (can't remember how to spell the full version). Went there a couple of times, and there's not a great deal there (if memory serves correctly). It's not the longest place name in the whole world, but I think it's the longest in the UK (and probably Europe).

Construction is due to start on the M6 extension from Carlisle to Gretna soon, and when it's opened the A74(M) and M74 will be renumbered as M6 into the centre of Glasgow. Apparantly it's also going to be taken through to meet the M8 in the centre of Glasgow itself....

hestermofet 29th December 2002 13:28

Goobies, in Newfoundland, Canada, takes the cake.

eleet-2k2 29th December 2002 14:21

Isn't that a village west of Brum.? Heard of that place think it's on the A38 as you head up to stafford drop over via Lichfield >on to Rugely >then Stafford.
I used to use a road called The A444,around the back of Tamworth way that runs all the way down to Stratford upon Avon. Goodness it's near ten years since I used them roads!

Homer: "My ears are burning."
Lisa: "Ahh, I wasn't talking about you dad."
Homer: "No, my ears are really burning. I wanted to see inside, so I lit a Q-tip."

It was a very complimentary discussion. You are The Original Forum God, after all ;)

ujay 5th January 2003 15:28

Of course there is a place called Beer, on the south coast of Devon, just beyond Seaton.

smeggle - How about Ecclefechan on the M74 in Annandale.(Just before Lockerbie).

An old favourite of mine - Rhyme Intrinsica, somewhere near Sherborne in Dorset.

And a famous signpost in Kent that reads Ham Sandwich.

(edit) c2r - you anywhere near the Henry Moore Foundation in Much Hadham then. (/edit)
