no, not neural's skin. I saw that reflection stuff quite a while ago, when I first started skinning winamp. I believe it was one of raj i/o's skins, monkey radio or act something something.
And Heeeeellll NO, I have never been inspired by any of THK's skins!!! That guy should be banned from every community site! all matra skins I know are version II (which is a major rip) and IV (which has some horrible airbrushing and an lcd that is way too dark). I'll stop now, this isn't really the topic.

db, I don't think that labels would look good on this particular skin, imo. I know where the buttons are, and it ain't that hard to memorize the wa2interface. prev play pause stop next, open, shuf rep, info.

I really like that color scheme, because it is so weird. I won't change it, sorry.

and oh my god you caught me, it's going to have one of these volume bars that lower and close as they get towards zero, guess I must be a trendwhore :) no really, I like skins with cool animations. I think vida started that trend with mechamp.

I thought about a text reflection, but it wouldn't move with the text which would make it look a bit strange, not sure if that's a good idea.

the lcd is not finished. I'll find a way to make it look less flat.

I've just looked at thk's deviatnartgallery. It's not that bad anymore, his recent skins look much more individual than his crappy matra series.

To be honest as ¤db¤ pointed out so eloquently, the whole genre tends to be recycled. Recycled effects are hardly the biggest drain on the originality scale. However, the kiddies like it (this is not meant to be derogatory... I, too, am most definitely more than a bit partial to this genre... especially the high-class offerings which it undoubtedly envelops).

Which brings me onto my next point... 883, this just doesn't do it for me. Perhaps it's not intended to since I am not a fan of UT nor that genre of games in general (hey shoot me, if you can bear the pun). It just seems a little lifeless. UT has sparkly pink and green bio globules, a bit like a cheap prostitute, I would imagine. :D

don't forget the volume and ballance bars.......

883, depending on where the bar is, if you move it up a pixel or 2 and put the bar into the text part, you can make the reflection move with the text, just be sure to use that sort of thing in the main windowshade and the playlist, plus you would have to make ur number smaller, you could also just enlarge the bar by 2 pixels or so, and you can make the reflection move with the text, not difficult :)

try it out, see how you like it

I never knew THK ripped. I personally enjoy Matra IV - Lucifer.

i have a drawer too, the point is when ur typing in the forums, ur drawer should probably be out so you can type, unless you can type without looking at the keyboard, in which case it wouldnt matter if the drawer is out or not, now would it? :P

I do, but if it's slid in, I can still type, but then my head is about a foot away from my monitor, even if I lean back in my chair. Also, because of all the crap I have to the right of my computer (scanner, printer, fax machine)... I can't position the monitor correctly (eg. move it to the left) because of the speaker in between the box and the monitor, so I have to move my chair over, angle my keyboard to the left, and risk getting carpel tunnel syndrome in my right wrist.

I'm stuck with this skin, don't have any ideas. vida told me that it lacks a strong vertical structure. I agree with him btu can't really think of anything better.

that's what I meant, 883. The text would have to be awfully small, and the reflection wouldn't be very substantial, but it's worth a try.

As for the labels, I think we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think that all identical buttons makes for an interesting skin. It makes them look generic, or something.

a maximum height for the text with reflection would be 3 pixels, that would be horribly small.

i dont know about the new left/right borders(hard to say with only a main)...

i'm getting a strong sense of uneveness now....i thought it was the middle of the titlebar but i looked closer and its perfectly centered between the green metal.

something is off but i dunno what it is....:cry:

it wasnt bothering me before..but now i cant help but stare at the middle of the skin.

it's probably the cbuttons that give you this feeling. doesn't bother me that much.

dont use red, kinda tricks the eye and doesnt look appealing. the metal needs some more highlights, because it looks too flat and plastic like. i guess ur not looking for this effect?
