now, call me mad, but i thought guns were illegal in this country? you'd think somebody firing one at a party would be fairly conspicuous at the very least. look back at the previous articles, this is not the first time recently that this has happened in birmingham.

i'm not sure whether i'm more scared by the fact that there are nutters running around with guns (and that would tend not to be the case, since i still went to glasgow after there was a gunfight in the street there), or that so far noone has come forward to say they saw someone with a gun...

Yeah, avoid Birmingham. Its full of Daves.

I travel through Birmingham regularly on the M6, and apart from being a traffic nightmare becuase the ring motorway hasn't been completed it just seemed like a typical city. Big, lots of people, and probably a normal crime rate compared with lots of the big cities.

Many years ago, I went to the ITnet headquarters in Bourneville. It was fairly nice there, actually. Just like a country village in a large city. Then again, parts of Highgate are like that in London. However, give me fields and forests anyday....

There are loads of gang shootings all the time, we only hear about this one because innocent bystanders were shot. So, avoid Birmingham because their gangsters can't aim properly, or perhaps they deliberately target innocent people. Not forgetting the fact that the place is a nightmare to drive through, has several bad football teams whose drunken fans litter its streets, and is full of Brummies who are clearly all related to each other and can't talk without sounding retarded ;)

Weed is illeagel in the US but it still gets around. It's the old saying, "When it becomes a crime to have item only criminals wil have item."

considering that the guy apparently fired many times, and the only people that got hit were innocent (we think) girls, i'm tempted to go for the latter...

The reason that the community won't say anything is becuase they know who it is, and do not want to risk dying in a hail of bullets themselves.

zootm 5th January 2003 22:30

at this rate, they'll be shooting up my flat in no time.

they're getting closer, i'm telling you.

Amen.

zootm 5th January 2003 22:49

on the plus side, we know who the criminals are now...

and i was thinking that very phrase when i posted, scarily.

On the negative side, you've got sticks, they've got semi-automatic handguns/hunting rifles/machine guns. And the Queen's got them too, if she's ever feeling nostalgic for the 17th century.

zootm 5th January 2003 22:52

to be fair, my knowledge of california is extremely limited. i suspect it'd be too warm for my pasty scottishness though.

the thing is though, nobody in their right mind commits a petty crime with a gun, at least at this stage in the collapse of society/in most cities. it's simply too much of a risk if you're caught...

InvisableMan 5th January 2003 23:28

california has pretty much the same weather as italy.

since california and italy are the only places on earth with this climate :p
