finding the server pid???

hi im writting a configuration tool which is a web based administration script. You basically type in the number of max users, the port number, and password u want the server to do, click apply, and then it writes the config file for you.

That works great, its all done.

But, i want to have start, stop and a restart button on my script as well.

So how do you find the pid of a server???? i noticed that it logs it in the server logs, but it will be a pain to search through that to find the pid. Is there another way???

thanx

The two ways I know about are:
1. grep the DNAS log
2. Use shell commands

Check out the results from a SHOUTcast forum search on 'pid'.

Look for a post by ccn titled:
linux, determining PID of shoutcast server on shoutcast-1.8.9
