What s the hold up?????

i was just wondering if anyone could tell me why for one thing, my skins seem to take sooo long to get published. i had one that took about a day, and now i have had 2 others on for 2 weeks now without publication? wtf?

and exactly how does one get a skin featured? i mean.. one of the featured skins at the moment, the guy didnt even freakin skin the MB. seems like it doesnt take much, but then again, maybe it does, :hang: cause at least my skins are complete but they arent featured.

bs if you ask me!:winamp:

dimichan 11th January 2003 03:05

LMAO... sorry, it's not funny I know, but the queue USED to be more like 6-8 weeks, the review squad have really been staying on top of things. 2 weeks is about normal, sometimes if your skin happens to get submitted just when the queue has been cleared it may get published phenomenally fast, but if you look at the "new or most recent" category (if generated skins still reside in there) every single one of 'em has to be reviewed (at least for basics and allowable content), and non generated skins get a more thorough review. Lately about 2-3 weeks seems to be max, and a couple days on occasion.

Featured, oh boy... from what I understand the reviewers can recommend skins, but there's one individual who makes the final decision, and doesn't have to consider their recommendations.

It was also my understanding featured skins HAD to be complete, but this isn't the first one that hasn't been, so to be honest, I dunno. I'd think there's enough quality complete skins to choose from, but I have no idea how picks 'em.

mruser 11th January 2003 03:36

hear hear

I know the feeling! I feel your pain! like three of the best things I have ever done are waiting to be published and have been since the 2nd. Sometimes it does take a long time but as for the featured thing. I think they have (at least lately) been using the close your eyes and point at one out twenty things on the screen method. I submitted one called GreenTherapy that would have blown that one you mentioned away if it had been posted next to it. But what the hey we don't do this for the recognition we do it for the joy of creating right? Right ? ehhhhhh right?? Anyway just be patient I thought my first one would never be published but it made it after a while.

StillWater 11th January 2003 05:44

The quality of the featured skins seems to be getting worse and worse. The conspiracy theorist in me suggests that it might be to help dissuade people from WA2 and into WA3, but maybe - probably more likely - the featured guy just doesn't spend as much time looking through WA2 skins anymore.

hey!, im not in you!:p

skinme! 11th January 2003 09:54

It's interesting now that the featured skin with no MB has a rating of 3 stars (thanks to me and Unrealpc_admin) :D

dimichan 11th January 2003 16:32

LOL - and I just felt inspired to write a critique worthy of War and Peace on it myself :p You know, I feel kinda bad for the skinners who get below average skins featured, it's an invitation to get what they probably KNOW isn't their best work picked apart.

Unrealpc_Admin 11th January 2003 16:38

well hey.. thanks guys/girls. its nice to know im not the ony one that is really gettin ticked off/annoyed etc. about this whole thing. ill get the component # for you guys later (if my skin ever gets posted.) maybe you guys could tell me what im doin right or wrong here. itll be my first. so..

Yeah, You're apologizing allright.

dimichan 11th January 2003 16:54

If you want, start a thread and post a screencap - then wait for the advice/comments/praise/rotten tomato throwing to commence :p If there's something obvious you want to change, you can always edit and update, doesn't usually bump that far down the queue :D

For information, there is no longer a queue, all skins submitted this year have now been posted, including yours.

Jellby 11th January 2003 18:44

Hurrah!!!!

Unrealpc_Admin 11th January 2003 21:25

check it out ladies . first skin.. so if you wanna say something, please be kind :up: :p   ?????

dimichan 11th January 2003 22:28

Your first skin kicks my first skin's err... rear, and a lot of my more recent ones as well, really nice job. Only things I can pick on right off is missing titlebar.cur and equivalents for the cursor that moves the components, amongst others; even if you just copy your normal.cur it's nice to have the set. And if you update, I'd go ahead and skin the mikro and AVS; mikro because its relatively popular, and AVS since it counts towards completeness and is an included component. And (not trying to be critical, really, cause overall it's VERY good) skin a font for the nums_ex.bmp, shame to have the default numbers . Very nicely put together and executed!!!

Unrealpc_Admin 12th January 2003 00:25

thanks. people like you just make me wanna keep making more skins:P

i think ill be gettin on that whole nums_ex, cursors avs and mikro.

honetsly, i never even heard of the mikro till like yesterday. i must be quite secluded and deprived of all the winamp lingo. let me in .. let me in!!! :D

dimichan 12th January 2003 00:34

If you don't have them already, grab Skinner's Atlas from Jelby's sig, there be the mikro, mbinner and winampbm.txt that go with it, and cursors, and I haven't been able to get the cursor multiply tool in it to work, but db provided another one in this thread; making 9 sure beats making 28, though I must've left one out because it skipped my pmin and eqmin cursors last time, so I just copied those :p

and mikroamp itself, the plugin that is, is at www.skinmaster.co.uk (I think)

skinme! 12th January 2003 00:45

www.skinmaster.co.uk/mikroamp

Hmmm... I dunno what the problem with CursorMultiply is. If there's one I'll fix it for ya.

Unrealpc_Admin 12th January 2003 00:51

beauty is ... cursors are done and text has been fixed so far. now.. i just need to figure out the mikro amp mbinner and so on. ill get it.

by the way.. thanks for the help again.. and the link too:D

Unrealpc_Admin 12th January 2003 00:56

and where can i find all this stuff.. like the mbinner? winampbm.txt? im clueless. HELP!!!

dimichan 12th January 2003 01:08

skinners atlas it's all in here with info in the readme, though to summarize, mikroamp is the plugin and displays the winamp controls as a small square (my sig pic is just a larger version of one I did), but it also allows for a certain amount of control over the minibrowser, as in, the winampmb.txt, which it reads, will point to mbinner.bmp, so you can display a pretty pic or credits, your name, copyright, etc, in the good ol' minibrowser.

Jellby 12th January 2003 10:36

Look at any of our skins to see it in action ;) (and install it, of course). Look inside them to see how it was done.

skinme! 12th January 2003 12:57

Remember all gfx in .bmp format and all HTML saved with a .txt extension (as Winamp only extracts .bmp, .cur, .txt [and in 2.81] .ini).

Unrealpc_Admin 12th January 2003 19:54

thanks guys. starting to figure this S*** out:D

skinme! 12th January 2003 20:08

Damn right you're not! I don't go for that sort of thing, I'm afraid. I'm heterosexual! (though many of the men I sleep with aren't)

No, just kidding, I'm actually bisexual. Well...no, not really, I just tell people I'm bisexual, because then they think I've had sex twice. :(

lol, just kidding. Hmm, I think I'm a bit more fond of one-liners than I should be, though. :weird:

Unrealpc_Admin 13th January 2003 18:17

ok.. last question! and this one just boggles my little mind. how in the world do i get a rating of this?

Overall Rating ***
Originality ***.5
Completeness ***
Aesthetics ***

Everything is in this skin. what more can i add to it?
