I love you guys !

I just updated to version 3 of Winamp and I just wanted to say,
you people rule !

I have seen alot of code, but yours is the best I've seen.
I just wanted you to know that.

In fact your free idea makes me want to share as well, so I
am attaching my own work, Personal TV 6
Just unzip it into a folder and try it out. No install needed.

It used to be shareware, but I gave up on shareware for now,
and since I have been using Winamp and its free, maybe you might
like my program. It made it onto a bunch of warez boards
so some people must like it. Its still in circulation but
this is a fully regged copy. I just haven't had the time
or energy to update it past Win98SE or NT 4.
Its 3.2 meg so I can't attach it but I will put it in my shared
folder on gnutella and you can grab it with a peer2peer
(Websites as distribution channells are so passe ;)
the file name is PTV12345678912a.zip that should be unique
enough. I'll leave Winmx on for a day or so. Or send me
an email and I will send you the program.

Enjoy.

I'm not sure wether to laugh or give this guy a medal.

So I'll give myself the medal, and laugh at myself.:D

Christ, I spent so many sleepless nights coding it and lost 3 girlfriends because I, personally spent so much time coding Winamp:p

As far as the rest of your post:

2 things from a guy I never unzip:
pants and files;)

FlavioIamFlavio 13th January 2003 17:06

Its neither cracked, nor cracked spam, nor green eggs and llamas.

Do a google on Rick Sobie (mwa).

No I'm serious, Winamp is awesome.

However, I just went back to ver 2. The sound quality was better.

Codec wars or something?

Vie 13th January 2003 17:10

2 has the same codex

Gonzotek 13th January 2003 17:39

You should read the FAQ. The sound quality in both WA2 and WA3 should be identical if you have the proper updates and settings for both.

Do you use a Win9x or a NT-based system? If it's Windows 2000 or better, use Directsound. If it's ME or below, use WavOut. Make sure your soundcard and other device drivers are up to date as well, because many soundcard ship with broken drivers and Winamp3 seems less tolerant of them then 2.

FlavioIamFlavio 13th January 2003 17:50

Right thanks.

It has a hissing noise at low volume, like when I use my
headphones. The rest of the improvements are awesome though.
Pretty slick.
What I also admired about you guys besides the simplistic
full featured interface (and the free part :) is the style.

I think the look is stylish. Whoever is in charge of stylin,
give yourself a kudo.

It never crashes, does whats its told, doesn't try and take
over the planet - at least I don't think it does ;) - the
graphic equalizer - cool - and a bunch of other stuff which
basically right from the start I could tell you guys knew
what you were doing. You knew what a quality program should do.

It doesn't do laundry, and it doesn't even try. Thats what I
liked the most I suppose.

The worst on the planet is audio galaxy I think.
It reminds of the doll that you squeeze it and it stinks.
It loads adware and a ton of crap, then crashes on install.
And never even runs.
And to think they probably spent years on it.
Oh well, such is life.

Keep up the good work people.

psychoticguyver 13th January 2003 18:16

Wrongo it allready is taking over, it does the laundry when its favourite skins get a little dirty

i think its time to either get some new headphones or stop using those ones

FlavioIamFlavio 13th January 2003 23:46

But these are my Sennheisers, no please not my overly expensive
Sennheisers. And the Sennheiser Lucas box thingy with, Dolby
suround sound? No, please not that, anything but that.
You can adjust each ear volume, pitch, tweek, and all these other
wondeful things that I don't know what they are. But I like them.
Actualy I think for now, - now don't be offended because you
made ver 2 as well, but I think just for now, I will stick to
old faithful 2.78. Its like a pair of old comfortable shoes.

The video window and all that is great, the laundry, the skins,
can't quite replace the smell of old faithful 2.78

And oh well, I'll admit, not that I'm lazy, but the thought of
doing all that stuff you said, to adjsut it properly, well,
I kind of like it out of the box, you know?

And its way over there, and I'm not lazy or anything,
but I think I will keep it and switch over later perhaps.

I mean, its hard to improve on a good thing isn't it?

No, I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for all the years
of listening pleasure, and the least I could do, was offer you
my little thingy as well - such as it is.
The first time I find a video that my usual player can't play,
I will be trying ver 3 again, more than likely.

smeggle 14th January 2003 00:05

Emm hello Welcome and all that stuff...Don't be offended but I'm with other's on this one. I don't DL .zip etc why not post it in the components section and then it may get checked out. Don't think you will have much joy here though.
Anyway welcome to the Forums and stop by again :)

FlavioIamFlavio 14th January 2003 00:10

Oh, one more thing...

A few of my buddies and I have been using gnu:// as a
gnut ref (out of respect for Kan - may the Llama of
Paradise shine happily on his code in that coders
happy hunting grounds in the sky) - and well I thought
I would pass that on to you as well.

Who knows, when Winamp is finished the laundry and
has nothing to do, and well lets say, suppose its
hungry for some metal, or blues, or Hendrix or even
Dolly Parton, well a link like that can get you straight
to your song, where-ever it may be, in this great
brave new world of peer2.

I think it would be like peanut butter and jelly for
the soul to just say in a message :

Hey Dude, check this out
gnu://"Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Summertime.mp3"

Global warming for the heart that is.

Thanks, but no, its not a component. I'm sure if someone wants
to try it they can find it.

Ceasars don't fear the zipper, they just use a virus program
is they are unsure.

ciao

And thanks again...

I'm sorry the offer expired. :(

You really should learn to trust people, you seem so well
so nervous. But hey, who _can you trust these days I guess.

No I just wanted to say thanks. I guess that I should have known
that if I offered you something it might be mistaken for spam.
My mistake.

Oh, BTW, does Winamp have a plug -in for these file types?

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ufowat...trongaudio.ram

binary hero 16th January 2003 11:57

winamp2 does, it's called tara (search http://classic.winamp.com/plugins/ for it)

winamp3 does not (legal issues)

FlavioIamFlavio 17th January 2003 04:24

Thanks !

I downloaded the free real 1 player and it plays m3u song list
files and mp3's and all the rest but the sound quality does not
hold a candle to Winamp.
(Interestingly enough, when I went to install real player,
it asked for my email address _and my email password. I thought
that was a bit weird.)

dlinkwit27 18th January 2003 00:33

there is a theard somewhere about using the winamp backwards plugin (that lets u use WA2 pluginins on WA3) and using tara to play .ra and .ram (complicated?) but i can't find it @ the moment.
