The worst year

What year was the worst for losing heros and idols of yours?
For me it was 1994, Kurt Cobain, David Bohm and Bill Hicks died that year. All of who's work I do/did love. A tradgic year for the loss of great people.

zootm 14th January 2003 15:26

the only "celebrity" i remember being upset about dying was douglas adams. that would make it 2001.

NetFury 14th January 2003 15:30

last year's loss of Layne Staley - 2002. RIP

the loss of Kurt Cobaine was tough also.

Merlin 14th January 2003 15:42

Ayrton Senna was an early hero in my life, so I would say 1994 for that reason. Otherwise, 1993 because Bobby Moore died, or 1991, Freddie Mercury. Neither event spoiled the whole year; in fact, I have good memories of most years I've seen.

In terms of generally bad years not relating to deaths, 2002 was the worst year in my memory. 1998 was pretty bad, but 2002 went and beat it viciously. 1999 rocked compared to '98, so hopefully 2003 will be great compared to 2002.

That was a really really sad moment in time for me too.

well, I know you are all going to think this is kind of silly, but I was quite sad when Pierre Trudeau died :( So, 2000 was a time of red roses and piroettes.

insomniac 14th January 2003 22:41

Whatever year Q (Desmond Llewelyn) from the 007 films died. I really miss that guy.

thepyr0x 14th January 2003 22:48

No offence to any of you, but I find it really.....uhm.....not right...the way that people become so attatched to people in the media.

Xerxes 14th January 2003 23:41

Last year, the excellent actor who played "Dr. Smith" in Lost in Space died... a true loss. There was a man who elevated the crap acting job given to him into a sublime performance.

I'm just going to have to lump the 80s together... not because of people dying, but because most of us were born during that time. Just think how much better off our world woudld be without us. :D ;)

InvisableMan 15th January 2003 04:48

i will always remember alec guinness for a bridge over the river kwai, nomatter how horribly inaccurate the film was.

Can you elaborate on "horribly inaccurate" ?

Xerxes 15th January 2003 08:36

The atrocity level conditions that the Imperial Japanese forced their civilian prisoners to work under in the creation over that bridge and its companion jungle railroad are hardly adequately reperesented in that film, for starters.

Some1 15th January 2003 08:45

Seer obviously missed the big History Channel thing where they spent hours just talking about how that movie clashed with reality...

Xerxes 15th January 2003 08:49

I don't think the French have Le Historie Chanel. ;)

(And think about it, would they really want a 24 hour WWII documentary channel outlining their incompetence and detailing the german bypassing of the Maginot Line every other hour? ;) :P )

liquidmotion 15th January 2003 08:52

Bill Hicks????

Yeah, because they'd call it "la chanèlle d'histoire."

...or something like that. En français, les ajectifs vont APRÈS la sujet. Of course, since I haven't had to speak it in a couple years now, I probably just mangled that sentence.

Xerxes 15th January 2003 08:56

Excuse my French.

:blah:

Twilightseer 15th January 2003 09:01

That would be "La chaîne Histoire". Actually, they have something like that on the cable (which I don't have) :)
About the "incompetence", I can't really judge : I prefer to wait for a third world war where the USA would actually be invaded before stating my opinion :D

james 15th January 2003 10:42

Sir Bert Millichip
Not only a great man and football exec, the best chairman of the FA ever, and West Brom legend, but also a friend of the family. :(

RIP

VisualAgnosia 15th January 2003 10:47
