Winamp3 isn't all about flaws and bugs...

I for one, love the new Wasabi platform, as a skinner. It's way more flexible and it is indeed a step further on the Winamp modability/customization. I'm sure I'll have a good time re-learning this skinning proccess and all those XML stuff :) once more thumbs up guys

I can live with its flaws pretty well, and sometimes we must sacrifice something in order to get another. I do not experience any problems that are usually listed here (Athlon 1.4Ghz, 640Mb SDRAM): the damn thing only takes 15Mb of my RAM when playing or another additional 4 using the AVS, 0-3% processor occupancy, loads in 1/2 seconds, and I can multitask with it without experiencing any problem at all (Q3, MOHAA...OpenGL games) Of course I miss the J shortcut, but it doesn't bother me much really, since my MP3 collection at the moment is rather small-ish. I don't notice better sound quality when comparing W3 with W2, and I even dare to say Sonique 1 sound decoder was much much better. Nothing a plug-in can't solve, however ;) I do believe the Winamp3 potencial, and I've already seen some good hints of it. Keep up the good work, and for God's sake, don't release it before the time: let the masses rant and do whatever they want, but just take your time to tweak the code, and give us a overwhelming final product. (and something to customize the shortcuts would be nice also ;))

Cheers,
deepinhell :winamp:

Quick, have him framed.

Not only did he say his opinions, but he backed them up well.
Cool.

Well jeese. WA3 has tons of stuff that surpasses WA2. Free form skinning, enhanced playlist management, more powerful plugin capability, sleek look, it's just right now it's buggy. And really, people only complain about a few things:

1. Speed, loading time, etc.
2. That FUCKING 'j' key! Man I wish you would release WA3d just to shut them up.
3. Resources

Fix that and people will be smiles and chuckles. WA3 has enormous potential whereas WA2 has hit a road block in development. And hell, take a look at Sonique or musicmatch jukebox, God awful players.

I don't know that wa2 has hit a road block, its more that there just isn't anything left to do. Its one of the most perfect products I have ever seen.

hmm I wouldn't say sonique is "God Awful" hell the only real problem Sonique 1 had was it's playlist usability(this includes the resizability), and the huge number of plugins WA3 has due to the huge fan base. Otherwise it is just below the par of WA3, the graphics in it are good although lacking alpha blending and transparency, and it's Vis system was the best there was until WA3, and don't forget Acid's Punk and Smear were both originally Sonique 1 Vises. On a side note Sonique 2 is almost on par with WA3 although development stalled due to cutbacks before the final release. Otherwise I have seen some kick ass skins and remotes made for sonique 2 that rival those of WA3 although MMD3 is still just about the best skin ive ever seen.

In the end the competition is good and it helps all of the MP3 people develop better programs.

If Winamp2 was the perfect player there would be no need for Winamp3. And as for Sonique, I downloaded it just to see and well, it didn't last a day. Musicmatch lasted for a far shorter time. THey seemed far too interested plugging their pay-player Gold version than playing my files.

hmmmm do they plan on continuing to load the playlist onto the memory, or is it just temporary?

killswitch1968 5th February 2003 14:01

Oh yes, being able to "disable" is song is an awesome feature. Stop a song from being played without removing the song from the playlist. Genius.
