embedded html links in audio files
I tried to open a WMA file in Winamp (2.81). It opened Winamp, and also opened IE to the band's website to "enable the song for playback".
I'm running Windows XP with the MP3 security patch. My question is, how does this work? How can we disable this crap. If they can do that, they can run code, or open a malicious website, FTP site, or worst case senario... send info from your computer to an RIAA server searching for anyone and everyone they can point their gun at. So, can this be fixed, patched, stopped? And how is it done? Thanks, |
It's just part of the .wma you have. Nothing you can really do about it, it's part of WMA's protection measures.

Moving from WA3-TS to WA2-TS
Yes, as Reaper says, it's part of the Digital/Personal Rights Management (DRM) security/protection feature in Microsoft's proprietry WMA format. This is the price you pay for choosing to use WMA instead of MP3 or OGG (or a number of other free, non-licensed compressed formats). Is there something you can do about it? Yes |
Welcome to the wonderful world of WMA and Digital Rights Management(DRM), where any fair usage rights you used have gets trampled on.....  :igor:
Stick to formats that have no DRM (OGG, MPC, MP3). |
All,
Thanks, that was really simple. Since I don't normally mess with WMA, I just didn't know it could do all that crap. Thanks for the help, I'll be sure to stay clear of files in that crappy format. Thanks! |
