It would look silly if they made all these changes, and then called it WA 2.82. 2.82 makes it look like a minor update.

Would someone like to explain the gen.bmp to me (specifically the titlebar bit)?

Is it (from left -> right):
  • left corner
  • left end of tile
  • middle tile
  • right end of tile
  • tile
  • right corner

skinme! 23rd March 2003 10:20

Ok, I got that right but what's the black square below the bottom bars and next to the bottom tile (starts at 118,72)?

And what is with the font? 7px is tiny. Most fonts look shit at that height.

1) gen.bmp has a generic window frame for plugins to use.its format is similar to the minibrowser's.

In addition gen.bmp includes a font for the titlebar, in both
highlight and no-highlight modes. The font is variable width, and it uses the first color before the letter A as the delimiter.

The no-highlight form of letter must be the same width as the highlight form.

Cleanup 23rd March 2003 15:00

I think that little blue square is for some useless reason of filling up spaces in the title.

Maybe. o_O I'm scared of all this. GEN.bmp is the Winamp Media Library, right?

skinme! 23rd March 2003 15:09

Gen = ML, AVS, any new windows ever.

MJ -- I've read that. It's useful but I still am annoyed. It's simply rediculous to set a title font a max height of 7px.

Cleanup 23rd March 2003 15:56

So the ML and AVS are based all on one format?

skinme! 23rd March 2003 16:00

Yeah.

I believe it can also be used by plugin developers in case they would like their plugin skinned, although I could be wrong.

skinme! 23rd March 2003 17:57

Makes sense. I think we should all bow down to Wally, the voice of reason.

FooMonkey 23rd March 2003 18:02

if we all did that Jones might get jealous...

Wildrose-Wally 23rd March 2003 18:24

Jones who? :D

Mr Jones 23rd March 2003 18:25

The gen.bmp is used much like the standardframe thingy from WA3, a basic generic layout that your plugin/component can sit in and be fully skinned to match the theme of the skin when it does.

skinme! 23rd March 2003 18:57

So, has anyone worked out the 7x7 square?

flatmatt 24th March 2003 01:53

I'm starting to believe it's just there. It's nothing. Like the close button in the old avs.bmp. It should have done something, but it just didn't...

2400 posts, heh.

garetjax 24th March 2003 09:27

I know...I think. That is the stretch Scroll area...ie the place where the slider moves up & down???

It will use that color & a dither of black with it...I believe.

flatmatt 24th March 2003 19:12

Err, nope. If you mean what I think you mean, the 4th and 5th pixels from the right in that row of a bunch of pixels on genex.bmp define the slider backgground colors.

Krynis 24th March 2003 19:38

ill have to look into this sounds intresting

PJay Tycy 24th March 2003 19:44

In the skin-database, how will we be able to tell the difference between a pre-2.9 skin and a post-2.9 skin?

Mr Jones 24th March 2003 19:56

Authors comments?

Or...

The same way tell now if the avs.bmp is included in a skin, in other words you don't....

Don't know, the database has enuff problems staying alive these days without having to over complicate it even further by asking it to identify new components.

skinme! 24th March 2003 22:45

You could try rubbing a magic-eight ball every time you went to download a skin. Hey, it'd be right about half the time, right? (Unless it was a biased/optimistic/fatalistic magic-eight ball)

Krynis 25th March 2003 03:12

thats one messed up eight ball :D

skinme! 25th March 2003 07:08

Hmm, so they weren't magic-eight balls I was rubbing then... d'oh!

from the genexinfo.txt
.....individual pixels that describe the colors for the dialog.
x=78: inverse scrollbar foreground color
x=80: inverse scrollbar background color

Can anyone tell me where these colours appear??? I cannot make them show anywhere

Also, is it possible to set the text highlight colours? For example, when I click on 'local media' the highlight colour is default blue, and when deselected it is default grey. Basically, the highlight colours are only working for me when the Library is in playlist view...

/I dunno. It might be cos I'm having display issues with WA2.9. It runs for about 10mins before screwing up my screen.

Help me out!

Mr Jones 25th March 2003 15:39

The inverse scroll bars had me foxed for a while, I believe you acctually have to click on the scroll bar itself to get them to work, I only found this out, cos I didn't know what they were on my first attempt, so left them bright red, I think they then showed up when I accidentaly clicked on the bar instead of the slider.

As for the selected blue thingy, it's been mentioned on the beta list as a bug and I believe Christophe was supposed to be doing something about it, probably add another pixel to genex.bmp, or use the existing highlight pixel, pixel 7 from the left hand side

thanks jones :).
On your JSWilly skin when I click below the button on the vertical scrollbar it turns white. This matches with your explaination. [edit]I've deleted the rest cos I was completely wrong, sorry 'bout that  [/edit]........time for a break I think.

pixel 7 would be preferable in my opinion. And for the typeface and fontsize to be the same as in pledit.txt

Mr Jones 25th March 2003 16:06

Are you sure?

I've just tested this on a skin here, default from the very right hand side it read Black, for the "scroll bar dead area", then black, black, for the inverse states, followed by black black for the regular states, changing them bright blue one pixel at a time brought them all to their expected states one at a time...

Will test more when I get home.

Sorry x 10

My bad. somehow I managed to put an extra 8 pixels on the end of the row of coloured squares, and I was identifying them from the right hand side. :igor: Hope I've not led too many people on a wild goose chase. I'll edit my mistake out of the above post so as not to confuse anyone else.

scrollbars

If any nullsoft guys are still reading this thread, I think something needs to be done about the "new vs. old" scrollbars. I'd say that for winamp 2.x, the "old" style scrollbars should be used. I know they're less "windows like", but as it is right now, having two types of scrollbars make skins look less uniform.

For winamp 5.x (or perhaps another suggestion for 2.9), you could have everything use the "new" scrollbars.

I just think to have some of both (when theres no way to even name the old and new look very similar) looks like crap.

P.S., perhaps 5.x can have the same skinning "formal" as 2.x (the bitmaps), but can you perhaps look at redoing some of the bitmaps (specifically titlebar.bmp, because I believe 2 of the titlebars share one horizontal pixel row in the current one)...

Wildrose-Wally 26th March 2003 23:34

The idea is to have Winamp "5" use both skin for WA2 and WA3. To redo the bitmaps would make thousands of WA2 skins obsolete, no thanks.

garetjax 28th March 2003 01:08

Is there a vid settings that will be added to the playlist to possibly enable default bgImage // Color // Etc also for the ML is there an on|off state that will be added at a later point???? Similar to CBUTTONS or SHUF/REP

Jidai 29th March 2003 14:19

I picked up Akura a while ago for 2.9 and loved it, my favorite skin. I just installed 2.9beta2 and wiped all my skins and such by accident and now the d/l link doesn't work, could someone mirror it?
