I was wondering if there was a way to monitor the bandwith that each shoutcast server is running. Either by port or username?

Also is there a way to hard code the bandwith limit on the server with the config file? for example limit one user to 64kbps?

Is your DNAS on a Windows or Linux (or other) machine? I'm sure bandwdith monitoring software abound on the Internet. Give Google a tickle. I've never used a monitoring package so can't recommend anything.

A: Sorry, no.

SHOUTcast doesn't provide the tools nor the means for network monitoring.

well it is on a linux box.... I just wonder how people sell the streams and such. That is what my company is wanting to do. But obviously we would want to be able to control the bitrate that they upload.

I believe they sell based on a maximum allowable throughput.

Since the bitrate is set in the DSP, I don't know how you could control it on the host side other than monitoring the DNASs.

Well wouldn't the number of users ultimately limit the bandwidth anyway? If I'm understanding the question correctly, you could run one user at 64kbps and others at a lower rate. Of course, you could run just one listener only at 64kbps and that would limit the bandwidth to just that 64kbps stream. It won't use anymore, but it won't use any less.
