Broadcasting to Windows Media Player?
Hey, is it possible to broadcast to winamp media player
i can get it to broadcast to winamp, and realone, but not windows media please dont shout at me if this has been discussed before, because i did do a forum search but found noting :( what should the playlist file for the windows media player look like, and what should the extension be? Thanx allot Matt |
I'm currently testing that...ha...it all depends if windows media player can play *.m3u playlists...I know it cant play *.pls...
also, a program that theoretically works with shoutcast should be sonique (sonique uses *.pls for playlists) |
yah me 2 hehe; we go way back to real player hehe. Also try Madz Radio's Forum's at http://forums.talksoftnetwork.com
|
rtp3 plz keep on testing it! This is a major deal for our station, not to mention a large way to get listners
|
guys i have done it
my playlist files looks like this: <ASX version="3.0"> <Entry> <ref HREF="mms://thedigitaldream.co.uk:8000"/> </Entry> </ASX> name ur playlist file as .asx it then plays in windows media :) and to prove it works: http://www.thedigitaldream.co.uk/rad...media_play.asx |
thx much
|
no problem :)
glad it works, it makes the shoutcast server very good software, because if it can stream to winamp, xmms(linux substite for winamp), real player, and windows media player, then that counts everyone nearly because all windows platforms now come with windows media player most linux distros come with xmms, and real player can be instaled winamp is available for mac isn't it, and so is real player i think this is great! |
i knew it had something to do with *.as* playlists...just couldn't rember exactly what it was...now if only I knew how to stream wma...
|
ok this has some flaws
it doesn't seem to work on any windows media version below 9 |
i found the same problem, it wouldnt work below wma 9. I applied for windows listing and never got accepted. I think they require that u stream windows media servers.
|
yea, they must have only put shoutcast support in version 9+
which means its not gunna be until version 9 is old that they start accepting shoutcast servers |
how much does there servers cost :(
|
Discussion continued at...
http://forums.talksoftnetwork.com |
their server costs allot
plus i wanna be able to use just one server, which will stream to winamp, real networks, and windows media. not two servers to achieve this. well if version 9 supports it, then so will version 10, and 11, etc. at least they now support shoutcast servers. just means that most people at the moment cant listen via windows media player because most have version 7 or 8. although some versions of 8 do stream it |
I Have WMP 8.0 And It Works Fine!
|
just want to bump this
|
Ok... call me dumb but I can't seem to get this working... I try to host and it's not working.. do I need to create a file called "listen.pls" on the Shoutcast server folder? I don't have listen.pls file but the documentation says that to host my stream, I have to use this format http://ip:port/listen.pls but it still did not work... anyone have any idea? What did I do wrong?
|
can someone give me a step-by-step procedure to do this. i am very slow and I'm confused easily.. plz anyone, list what u did u get it to work on wmp!
|
Go Into Notepad.
Enter This Text --------------- <ASX version="3.0"> <Entry> <ref HREF="mms://yourip:yourport"/> </Entry> </ASX> --------------- Save It As Listen.txt In Windows Explorer, Rename It To Listen.asx Open In Windows Media Player! Version 8 And Up. |
now what exactly will this do?
|
it won't load it in my WMP v.9
|
it gives me an error
|
To listen via WMP 7.1+, use http://ip:port/
|
the link above was from months ago
its a dead link now so it wont work for anyone |
If your talking about the submitting link. It still exists.. Let me re copy it.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ubmitting.aspx |
no im talking about the link i made, that plays the stream in windows media player. Its a dead link now cos it was only there as an example. i know longer bother streaming to windows media because 90% of people cant tune in
once the next version of windows comes out, then i will stat using it because more and more people will have the latest windows media player, but until then there is no point submissions wont be accepted because ur stream isn't backwards compatable. real what it says on the site, they only accept windows media servers. oh well |
i'm gonna take my chances hehe. I hadn't submitted yet so here I go
|
Just so there's no confusion after this thread, Windows Media encoder is free. You can look into it here. I've run it under 2000 Pro with good results, but I certainly prefer Shoutcast for audio.
|
oh. I didn't know it was free. Wonder if it works with sam?
|
think you have to use their software to broadcast it
let me know if you can get it to work tho |

Save it on a webserver.
