Prerecorded broadcasts?
Is it at all possible to use shoutcast installed on linux, to play a
prerecorded broadcast, using a playlist of mp3's that would include music, annoucements, promos, and readings that are located on the linux server? Everything I've come across seems to require a winbox with winamp connecting to linux IP, and we only have one DJ, who's area does not yet have cable or DSL, so, he can't maintain a constant connection using home winbox; and needs to cut some zzzz's from time to time. ;-) Is there any kind of cron job, servlet or other means of setting up a "timed playlist" which would simulate what the winamp plugin does? We have 4 websites on a colocated linux machine, with 80Gb space, and 400Gb/monthly b/w available, and have successfully broadcasted 'live" with our install of shoutcast; we have over 150 hours of mp3s, being broadcast now, via live365, but the advs. are not appropriate, and, we are non-profit, can't afford to pay their charges to disable the advs. We are adding more original arrangements, and plan on having several weeks of prerecorded programming available by year's end; our DJ is the musician, arranger, and reader, the broadcast is non-commercial, hence, our limited staffing and budget. Thanks, folks. tom nufield |

We have shoutcast installed in /home/username/shoutcast/ ; We have tunes in /home/username/shoutcast/content/ The www files are /home/username/public_html/ ... 1) does the "content" need to be in a public accessable folder? 2) where do we put the sc_trans.conf? 3) we have been able to stream using any domain-name:8000 that is on this server; so, do we put sc_trans.conf in a folder within a particular domain? 4) where do we put the playlist.lst ? 5) anyone with examples of exactly what files go where? Thank you. nufield |
I'm going to reply to this even though I don't have much experience but have the same setup as you're hoping to get.
>>1) does the "content" need to be in a public accessable folder? This one I don't know of. By public to you mean that it is readable to the "world" or "everyone". Because I don't think that it needs to be because mine isn't. >>2) where do we put the sc_trans.conf? This goes into the same folder that you run sc_trans_linux >>3) we have been able to stream using any domain-name:8000 that is on this server; so, do we put sc_trans.conf in a folder within a particular domain? See #2 >>4) where do we put the playlist.lst ? See #2 >>5) anyone with examples of exactly what files go where? This is pretty vague so I'm going to be all over the place. Your content can be anywhere, you just have to specify it in the playlist. Other than that, everything (playlist, .conf file) should be in the same folder as the broadcaster (.../sc_trans_040/ on mine) Hope this helps. |
