experiencing a completely bizzare problem.

I am experiencing a completely bizzare problem.

I just install a shoutcast server and the DSP plugin on my home machine so I can listen to mp3s at work.

i also use Halo 8's update of WWWinamp (http://projects.halo8.net/ ), but I doubt this is causing the problem.

My problem is that winamp keeps starting from the same point in my playlist. By this I mean when I connect to the stream I'm listening to Song A. Now I listen for an hour, then stop and play to reconnect, it's starts off once again at Song A. Now I understand the concept of delay and latency issues with the internet, but doesn't anyone else find it ridiculous to be an hour behind? And even if I was an hour behind, I'm still starting at the same song I was before, would it not make sense to be where I was before I restarted instead of at the "beginning". Also, the songs I was hearing while the stream was playing were not anywhere close to the songs appearing in the song history on the shoutcast admin page.

I don't have a pls file, but I didn't think you needed them. I just load files into the playlist, hit play and leave for work, then I manipulate the list with WWWinamp through my browser.

I am doing something wrong? Is there a setting I missed somewhere? Does winamp cache streams or something? Is it because of WWWinamp? I hope not, since I'll would hate to lose the control I have.

I'm on Winamp 2.91 at work.

Please help.

Are you connecting to your DNAS or an on-demand link?

playgodradio 5th June 2003 22:48

I'm just connecting to http://<myip>:8000/

I assume that means the DNAs since I'm not specifying the specific mp3 file.

FesterHead 5th June 2003 22:50

That is your DNAS link.

It should not behave as you've descibed.

Please post a link to the DNAS.

playgodradio 5th June 2003 22:57

It's only set for a max of 5 listeners, but since I'm the only one listening you and a few others shouldn't have a problem.

http://playgod.******.com:8000/

I realise I have a pseudo-static ip, but it really shouldn't be causing this effect.

FesterHead 5th June 2003 23:04

Whoa! Loud and proud, eh?

Try lowering your levels and/or normalizing your sources to reduce the clipping.

(Heh, you're futzing with the levels as I listen)

I am not experiencing the descibed behavior.

Two things:

1. I'm nowhere near my server so you've suddenly described a reason to go pummel my brother or maybe i'll do need to normalize. Is there a way to directly modify the outgoing stream? I don't want to normalize 1000+ mp3s, plus it's Chimaira... It's supposed to be like that.

2. You're not having the problem I am? Well s**t! Anyone have ideas? I seem to recall this happening before when I was listening to ChronixRadio's stream...

FesterHead 6th June 2003 00:37

S: so you've suddenly described a reason to go pummel my brother
R: Whack him a few times for me

Q: Is there a way to directly modify the outgoing stream?
A: Fix the problem at the source.

S: I don't want to normalize 1000+ mp3s
R: Let MP3Gain do that for you :)

S: it's Chimaira... It's supposed to be like that.
R: Loud and proud is fine. Loud, proud, and distorted is not.

Q: You're not having the problem I am?
A: Yes

playgodradio 6th June 2003 00:47

I'll look into using MP3Gain. Could I also be because I have the WA equalizer on?

We'll see tomorrow what's up with this streaming error.

playgodradio 6th June 2003 18:21

I've tried it from school and I'm not getting the problem. I'll have to check again at work I suppose.

Thanks for the help though.

Tom 6th June 2003 18:25

BTW the EQ does effect the broadcast, as does the preamp.

Tom

playgodradio 6th June 2003 18:27

preamp?
and i'll kill the EQ tonite.

MOTHER****ER!!!
I'm back at work today and the problem is definately still happening. I didn't have problems with the other machine I tested at different locations just this one here at work.

I tried monkeying with my buffering controls for the MPEG Audio Decoder but that doesn't seem to affect it. Right now I'm 13 songs behind the playlist. And If I stop I'll start again at 14 songs behind.

I wonder if it's a problem with the network here and maybe they cache stuff. I'll test with another station is see what happens.

playgodradio 7th June 2003 17:56

I feel like I'm spamming my own thread here but I've diagnosed this as being a problem with at least one other station. I'll start asking int he general WA2 Tech Help forum to see if someone can help there. If you do think of anything I'd appreciate your sharing it with me. Thanks for the help you did give though!

I remember that this is a know bug of the winamp! This isn't a shoutcast prob its a registered bug!
