ParraMatt 10th June 2003 04:19

Could it be because in my "Nullsoft SHOUTcast Server Monitor" it says

<06/10/03@14:21:52> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<06/10/03@14:21:52> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 211.28.96.41:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection refused))

jagwac 10th June 2003 04:19

That is your internal IP address. You need to find your external one.

http://www.radiotoolbox.com/online_tools/whereami.php

jagwac 10th June 2003 04:21

Yes...open port 8000 on your firewall.

I dont use MS's firewall. Personal opinion, it's a piece of crap. So I cant help you with that.

Try reading some things here...

I'm really sorry for makin this such a drama mate, its just i havent broadcast from shoutcast before.. Could u explain what internal and external adresses are and how i find out my external one.. All i want is my friends to listen to the music im playing.

jagwac 10th June 2003 04:26

K...dont worry.

You need to find out your external IP address. The one that tells us who you are. If you go to that site..it should show it to you.

Once you find it out...post it back here and we will go from there.

Dont worry about not knowing all there is to know. It takes time.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 04:29

This is what it says in "Nullsoft SHOUTcast Server Monitor"

How do i get to my firewall. :(

jagwac 10th June 2003 04:36

Like I said...I dont know MS's firewall at all. Thats the first thing I turn off.

But...for future reference...

For people to listen, the address would be http://211.28.163.26:8000/listen.pls

Course...thats depending on whether or not you have a dynamic or static IP address. If it's dynamic, it will always be different and change from hour to hour or day to day.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 04:43

Ok Mate... My friends have said that doesn't work and I'm beginning to think it could be me.
Just tell me if I have done everything right.
I downloaded the server and installed it. I also got the dsp plug-in so i can be a dj and opened that, chagned the port to 8000. password to changeme, and adress to 127.0.0.1, did all that stuff and now i play a song and connect and it says connected 14212606120 bytes or whateva. Have i done everything right mate? Or have i missed something.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 04:45

And also in the "nullsoft SHOUTcast Server Monitor" it says

<06/10/03@14:47:44> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<06/10/03@14:47:44> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 211.28.96.9:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection refused))

jagwac 10th June 2003 04:48

First...change the password. Make it whatever you want...but not "changeme".

If you are running the SHOUTcast server on your own machine...the address is correct.

What you need to do for listeners to connect is find a way for your firewall to allow access to port 8000. You can disable the firewall by going into your network connections properties and just uncheck "protect my computer and network blah blah blah blah". That will allow your server to accept connections.

I do recommend a firewall. I dont recommend the MS one though.

Other than that...you have done everything correct :)

Thats your MS firewall refusing access.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 04:54

Ok Mate, thanks for all this help.... So how do i do the firewall thingy, where do i go, Where is network connections?

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:00

There should be an icon either in your task tray near your clock...looks like 2 little computers.

or

Go into your control panel and double click Network Connections.

Once that is open, right click on local area connection and select properties. Click the advanced tab. Uncheck the "protect my yadda yadda blah blah blah"

Now...you will be unprotected by the firewall (like you were really protected before ) and check you ip address again and give the link like I posted before.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:03

Im in local connection properties but..... it doesnt have advanced there. all it has is Configure and Install.

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:04

What OS? XP? XP Pro or Home?

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:05

And when i click on configure it has an advanced button i click on that and then it has ..Value ... With a drop down menu with 10mbps, 10mbps full duplex, 100 mbps, 100mbps full duplex, auto negotiate.

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:06

Wait no...the Advanced "tab".

On the top.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:06

Would it have anything to do with because this isnt the main computer in the house. The computers are networked and this isnt the main computer.

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:07

No...dont you have an Advanced Tab on the top?

One should say General and one should say Advanced.

Tabs..not buttons.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:09

Yeh i see the advanced tabs, but then it has "connection type" and then all those names i mentioned before " 10mbps and so on.

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:10

k...nevermind those other things.

On the advanced tab...uncheck the "protect yadda...blah...crap"

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:11

It doenst have any of that.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:12

It says im connected to Macronix MX98715 Family Fast Ethernet Adapter (ACPI)

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:12

It doesnt?

I assume you are runnign Windows XP. Which one? Pro or Home?

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:14

No...click the advanced tab. Then uncheck.

Come on man...my rye and coke is getting warm here and needs a refill :)

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:15

Yeh mate im sorry about all this....
I have Windows 2000 professional and in the advanced tab its got nothing u can uncheck.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:17

Its got no advanced tab only general... and in general the only ones u can uncheck are...

*Clients for Microsoft Networks.
*Flie and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks.
*Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

and they are all ticked.

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:18

Whoaaaaaaa...ok...you have Windows 2000.

No built in firewall. You have a router.

K...go to your routers page, I am guessing it is http://192.168.1.1 and alllow port 8000 to pass through.

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:20

haha

I just clicked on that link and this is what came up

401 Access to this resource has been denied.

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:21

K...you do have a router right? What kind is it?

ParraMatt 10th June 2003 05:22

Ummmmmm Router.... What is that again? if you explain it i could find out mate.

Broadband ADSL/Cable SOHO Router with 4-Port 10/100Mbps Ethernet Switch

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:27

ROUTER

Quote:

A device that forwards data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP’s network. Routers are located at gateways, the places where two or more networks connect.

Routers use headers and forwarding tables to determine the best path for forwarding the packets, and they use protocols such as ICMP to communicate with each other and configure the best route between any two hosts.

Very little filtering of data is done through routers.
AKA a little box that allows a bunch of computers to connect to the internet through one internet connection.

jagwac 10th June 2003 05:28

k..ya...you need to get to your router config page and allow shoutcast access through port 8000.

I dont know your brand of router so I am going to be little help there.
