website address?
I applied for a website for us...the terms are excellent: 1 ad, 200MB of storage, 5GB of data transfer, PHP4, mySQL:
http://www.exaltedhosting.com/free/freehost.htm our (potential) address: www.theavscommunity.com |
hmm.. an add you say
ad not add
*cough*
great!! but i dont really like the name theAVScommunity...AVSworld.com sounds better to me.
Erm by the way, i have a domain, i have a site design, i have forums, i don't have the content for it.
fuck...already sent the email. avsworld is taken how about www.avsworld.net?
Hellooo, heeeey, hey, look at me... OVER HERE!!!!
hi raz :). Tell me your oh so exciting story you're so willing to tell us. Btw. One of these months I should get my own server up and running, which I will dedicate to AVS as well.
*bangs head against wall*
i find nothing wrong about www.theavscommunity.com
Oh bugger you all then.
raz: in german we say "undank ist der welten lohn" :(
What's you domain Raz?
look in the WEBSITE thread, raz told us like 999 billion times about it. :D
why not work together? the url could point to raz's website.
WTF... that 'exalted hosting' looks so much like a fraud I can't believe it. They might as well be saying 'Send me a check in the mail, and I'll promise we give you hosting!'.
Let's see: - The Text Begins Every Word With An Uppercase Letter. - Suggests to submit your site to 10000 search engines. I guess they STILL don't realize that the search engines that actually matter spider the web themselves rather than waiting for people to submit their URL. - Worded like spam, generally badly written, contains stuff like "For our TOS, click here: TOS", uses 'Gigs' and 'Megs' instead of the standard units GB and MB and contains several typoes. And finally the stupid fluorescent-green-on-black-to-make-it-look-cool-and-sci-fi instantly makes me reach for the [X]. If they ARE serious, I pity them for a complete lack of marketing and presentation skills. |
both "theavscommunity" and "avsworld" are lame to an extreme extent. just "avs.whatever" would be nice. dot.tk is kind of wierd...it says that avs.tk is registered, but when you do a whois lookup and retype the domain name it says that it isn't registered.
...:weird: i think that's the only avs.whatever that isn't (?) taken. possibly winampavs.com? |
I have a friend who runs www.nuclearstudio.com with Jiffynet hosting, try them.
eh...lets just use avs.rockworld.com. much easier
(you do have subdomains, right Raz) |
yes we have subdomains, avs.rockworld, and it's either rockworld.co.uk or .org, crappy domain got taken before we bought it and now we've got between those two. And i have a forum design, a site design, the lot now please stop worrying about it and start worrying about some content.
Give the man some goddam content already!! Who gives a *censored* about the url! If its evilavs.com, avshack.net or avsthisupyour(censored).org people don't really care! They will find the site through this forum or through a search engine then bookmark the (censored).
Raz ya got a screen shot of the site? *censored* a *censored* *censored* ya *censored* *censored* *censored* ) :) |
Shite, i though we already has this organised, i thought raz had it sorted out fine..
what is going on? Afaik, all we need is content now. |
I thought you guys hated the idea of more AVS sites!
this is not "more" sites. this is the same site we started planning a while ago.
Seriously - let's just worry about the content. My tutorial is in the process of being completed, but still has a lot to go.
Explain CONTENT please. What does the site need ? Tutorials ? Packs ? Quotes from the AVS world ? Math facts ? Pi jokes ?
Math facts is a great idea seeing as that is where alot of people have difficulty to begin with.
We need: Beginner tutorials Intermediate tutorials Advanced tutorials For: Dynamic Moves Superscopes Mathematic concepts Creating a composition (info on blends, composition guides, things to think about etc.. etc...) APE writing omputer tweaking Pack creating Or anything generally useful for beginners/intermediate. Smaller, subjective information should remain in forums like this one. I think those that are interested in including content should stipulate now what they intend to do. So that a) there's no conflicting tutorials by the time the site is up b)so that the information is correct for the website c)so that we can ask others to write missing tutorials. For the content creators - ensure your language reflects a simplified, instructive format. Explain why you do things like you do so that people aren't just copying/repeating your formulae - they are learning how to make thier own. a good example at rabidhamster.org in the r2e tutorials. |
NSIS tutorial / templates would also be a plus
This is depressing.
