ALMOST up and running...

Okay, got the server and dsp installed and running.
I can connect now, but occasionally in the log I get this:

<06/13/03@13:47:03> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<06/13/03@13:47:03> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 217.40.231.14:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out))

What does it all mean?:igor:
Also, is there any way I'll know I'm broadcasting through the Shoutcast site successfully from my server or dsp interface?
TA!
:D

have you got a firewall running
do you have windows xp??

MadLabs 13th June 2003 13:22

I've got Norton Internet Security which I reckon may be running a firewall. What do I do to remedy that?
Yes I'm on XP

matt2kjones 13th June 2003 13:25

ok you need to disable your windows xp firewall because nortan internet securit will take care of that

to disable your windows xp firewall do a search for windows xp firewall

also you then need to open up ports 8000 on your nortan internet security firewall, read the instructions that came with nortan if u wanna no how to do that

after that it will probably work

MadLabs 13th June 2003 13:30

I've disabled my firewall, and I'm guessing that port 8000 is open, (Though Idon't have a clue how to open it if it's not).
If I now run winamp, and connect my server, is that then it?
Do I check my transmission on another pc with that http://IP:PORT/listen.pls thing?

matt2kjones 13th June 2003 13:40

well now u have disabled ur win xp firewall and oped port 8000 do u still get the errors logged or have they gone???

your listen link is

http://your-ip:your-port/listen.pls

MadLabs 13th June 2003 13:43

still get the errors man
this isn't as easy as nullsoft make out is it?

matt2kjones 13th June 2003 13:57

well just read up on how to open up port 8000 on your firewall then, thats all you need to do

FesterHead 13th June 2003 15:57

Nullsoft doesn't have control over your network.

DJHotIce 13th June 2003 16:18

festerhead what are you talking about haha. Nullsofts parent company is AOL, which AOL has full control over how the internet operates, They are similar to the matrix which has control over all living things. See where I'm going with this?

so in a way Nullsoft does have full control over your network. :D

(twisted I kno)

DJHotIce 13th June 2003 16:22

Yes, personally I don't have norton, but I should know that it is fairly easy to open ports, try www.norton.com for ways how. And also try www.windows.com to find out how to open XP ports on the XP firewall :D

FesterHead 13th June 2003 16:29

Q: See where I'm going with this?
A: No.

S: AOL has full control over how the internet operates
R: False.

S: so in a way Nullsoft does have full control over your network.
R: False.

Let me elaborate on my reply "Nullsoft doesn't have control over your network" to "this isn't as easy as nullsoft make out is it?" by pointing to the DNASs readme:
code:
* If you want people on the internet to be able to hear you, you also need
a clear connection to the internet. No firewalls, NAT devices, web
caches at the ISP, proxy servers, or internet sharing devices. In some
cases you can make a workaround but if you intend to provide a quality
streaming service you have to invest in a quality connection. Naturally,
if you just want to run a private server locally on a LAN, you don't need
this at all.

matt2kjones 13th June 2003 16:33

what festerhead means is that nullsoft cant setup ur network for you

you cant say (i guess its not as easy as nullsoft makes out) which the problem isn't a problem with the nullsoft software, but actually is a result of the fact that the user doesn't have enough network knowledge to setup his/her network for the dnas server.

DJHotIce 13th June 2003 17:14

I was just joking there.

CrazyLady15 13th June 2003 19:49

i have the same message only im not on XP and my only firewall is the built in one on RR(road runner) <06/13/03@10:28:43> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 24.88.250.57:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection refused))

What do i do to get this running?

DJHotIce 13th June 2003 19:50

I don't recall road runner shipping with a firewall. But anyways here I go (actually I have road runner as well)

are you using a router?
Using Zone Alarm or Norton Firewall?

CrazyLady15 13th June 2003 19:52
