win2000 vs. Linux Suse 8.1

we're running our winamp + dsp + acf on a win2000 system. it works fine. we are thinking about to change to linux. but, it's this a good idea?

A year or so ago the developers ranked the order of preference for OSes running sc_serv like this (most preferred first): Solaris, FreeBSD, Linux, Windows
This of course does not take into account the stream source.

true, but i have running my win2000 3 weeks without reboot and problems (reboot was just because i have to change hardware).

does exist crossfaders, and all this stuff for linux? i am searching something like the SqrSoft Crossfader... winamp and the dsp plugin exist for linux, but i don't find a crossfader. . .

running a source on linux is a pain

and linux is totally different than windows

so it will take u a while to get use to

you say u have run windows 2000 for over 3 weeks with no problems

so why bother changing something that works fine as it is now

and im not slagging linux cos its what i use, but i just think ur better staying with windows if ur use to it.

the software i use to source my shoutcast server, is so basic, it basically reads a log file and streams the mp3's from a folder

its commandline app by the way

it does fade the tracks into each other and such but you dont have much control over the software

can you give me some URL's ?

that's 1 reason why i'm opening this thread. i think i find better software for streaming on windows than for linux.

goto shoutcast.com and go to downloads

click i wanna be a dj

download sc_trans

that will act as a source for winamp :P

u can also use the linux equivalent of winamp, its called xmms

http://www.xmms.org there is a plugin for xmms in the tadio toolbox sticky thread (i think)
