Is A.I. all its cranked up to be?
well, i downloaded ecceliza (a supposed "AI" program) and have been testing its reactions to different types of people and moods. for what it is (freeware), it is pretty good, putting each word into different catagories, and analyzing your reply word by word, much the same as the human brain would, but does not fully understand long replies. i got a log file from one of out "sessions" ;)

There was a real AI posted a while back, I forget the name it was alvin or something.

hmm...says its compatable w/winME (which I'm running), but I just get an 'please upgrade your version of windows' error. Yet more proof that winME is the worst os to date... *Sigh* :(

another entertaining lof file i pulled outta my ass. this time my friend chris was s'pose to be a stressed out worker. i figured out that insulting a programs creator is like saying your mom's a pot smoking whore.

eliza has been around forever (there's a spectrum version, for goodness' sake). it's a primitive psychologist program, not much else. this is a new version though... i'm not sure what exactly they've changed, to be honest. it's also part of the school of AI that yearns to model the way we talk... (same idea as the turing test candidates which occasionally spring up). it's not an especially "practical" branch of AI - there's a lot more it can do than just talk back to you.
that said, eliza can be hilarious sometimes - my friend still has a printout on his wall from about 4-5 years ago of a conversation with eliza about his "pots" and why he can't leave his cupboard... |
