Random little quirks

What are the little quirks that make you, you. That individualise you and make your personality unique?

White Raven 14th July 2003 00:50

I lick scissors, it's habit... I'm serious, I don't do it on purpose, but I find myself playing with the blades and licking them, I really have got to stop doing that before I cut myself... I'm not even sure when it started, but I've had the habit for a year or two. I guess I just like the feel of the metal or the taste or something... I dunno. I'm kind of embarassed about it, and I've never met someone else who does that.

When I'm thinking, I sometimes tend to drum my fingers in the air quickly.

I dance when nobody's watching.

I talk back at the TV when nobody's there, and I'm usually quite rude to commercials.
*Sees some slut hanging off the hood of a car*
'Oh is that your plan? Get some fat 40 year olds to buy that car so they can have fucking delusions they'll get women like you? HA! Slut! Hahahahahahahahahahahaha...' etc.

I say 'S' out of the corner of my tongue, so the sound is a bit fuzzy. It's not said like 'th' at all, but it's just a kind of fuzzy 's' sound. You'd have to hear it to understand.

I hate big bathrooms. If I'm in one using the toilet, I get completely paranoid that someone's going to open the door. The smaller the bathroom, the better, IMO...

All of my idiosynchrasies I can think of at the moment. :D

EnDurA 14th July 2003 01:28

Andrew's bad habits:

cracking knuckles, toes, wrists and ankles

always tapping with a foot or hands, side effect of being drummer

twirling pencils in class, my teachers hate me for it

umm, i thinks thats all

Psythik 14th July 2003 01:36

cracking fingers (like all the time, even In public; I never drop my hands)

moving head like a freakin' bobble head doll while listening to music

getting WAY more annoyed than most people when a station buffers or skipps, even if it's a little

tapping index and middle fingers rapidly on hard surface a lot when thinking

beating the living shit outta my physical desktop when PC crashes (had it for 10 years and still hasn't broken)

Spending a LONG time on my computer while listening to the same station all day ("But I only got on at 7am!" "Yeah, and it's 11:30pm" "Really? Where'd the time go?")

when in the forums, I'm totally ignoring the music that I'm listening to for the most part

And that's all I can think of for now...

i find myself singing along to the lyrics if i listen to music under headphones. also i shout at people if they talk to me whil i have phones on, not intentionally

White Raven 14th July 2003 01:48

Oh yes, I crack my wrists, ankles, toes and fingers, too. ^_^

psyfive 14th July 2003 01:50

I bite my nails.

Fickle 14th July 2003 01:53

Making up words like Signage and stove-putty.

When I didn't hear what someone said, I'll respond in gibberish. "Shublahgeckosqash?"

Starting conversations with people I don't know, about stupid things no one cares about. It's always good for a laugh. ie: "Hey, what's your opinion of waffles? Are they better home cooked or do you dig the toaster kind?"

ps: Home made are great beyond compare, but that doesn't mean I would ever leggo my eggo.

psyfive 14th July 2003 01:56

sometimes when im around friends, I find myself attempting to speek in 1337... it usually consists of me adding zor to the end of whatever im saying...

I think just about everyone does that, cuz they're talking over their music, which is generally loud, which makes them loud, even though they don't know it, simply because they got used to the loud music which sounds normal to them, so therefore shouting sounds normal. *gasps for air*

oNaMiSsIo 14th July 2003 02:00

i will randomly start using legalese in a conversation, just to be funny. :)

oh, and i scream at people driving slow even though no one can hear me. i'm pretty sure i do it just to keep myself company in te car. :)

like fickle, i'll use -age after anything that fits (ex. "Hows about we get some foodage?"), and i too start random conversations, just not as random as fickle's. (waffles? ;))

GoldenSphynx 14th July 2003 02:12

I crack everything including my fingers, toes, ankles, neck, wrists, knees, and back.

I can also get a bit annoying, or a lot, depends who you ask. ;)

And sometimes my sarcasm has no end, which can be inappropriate. :)

sgtfuzzbubble011 14th July 2003 04:26

I think a lot of people tend to crack miscellaneous bones in their body. I do it all the time, too. Knuckles and fingers (all the time), wrists and ankles (quite often), elbows and knees (every now and then), back (once or twice a day), and neck (seldom).

And I'm sure I've got lots of little quirks, but I don't feel like thinking about them right now. p

Raz 14th July 2003 20:21

Wow, White Raven, that's weird, i do the same thing, just mess with scissors when i'm waiting for pages to load on crappy dial up, i might just cut little bits of my hair or paper or just mess with the blades, i'm not sure why. The tv thing to, shout at it when there's so many adverts you have to wield a shotgun just to ward of all the bullshit. I'm a very strange person.

zootm 14th July 2003 21:16

i fidget and chew things. all the time. i have the personal habits of someone half my age - i often just can't sit still.

Raz 14th July 2003 21:24

I've never sat still for long, it's why i started playing guitar, so i had something to do when there was nothing else.

ShyShy 14th July 2003 21:33

my mind jumps from subject to subject a lot, drove an ex nuts. i mix up phrases a lot when talking. i also dance around the living room. i mumble a lot to myself. i have a "texan" accent that pops up randomly or when there's another hick in the room. and i drink waaaaaaaaayyyyy too much coffee.

Cylob 14th July 2003 22:20

ShyShy, that's what you get for watching 'Dallas' at an early age.

Quirks: I'm a perfectionist, need I say more?

ShyShy 14th July 2003 22:36

/smacks Cylob upside the head for making fun of the little hick

hey, i only lived in texas for 8 years (military brat), the accent just happened...

ryan 14th July 2003 23:01

I bite my nails.

I find myself talking to people covering my mouth.

I worry about what I look like all the time...(I guess I have low self-esteem or something)

I have this thing where my thumbs crack when I move them right, and I do it all during class at school.

I'm late all the time..

I have that thing about bathrooms like white raven.

I chew on pens..(NOT PENCILS)

Coman 15th July 2003 05:25

not really comfortable to talk about it, but...

i chew everything there is if it can fit in my mouth and usually i cant stop. pen, pencils, straws, nails - most often, and usually, if its a pen or a pencil, you may as well threw it away cause ill brake it chewing it.

i crack my fingers, neck and back all the time, and the more i do it the more they crack. i become very addictive to it with time and it bugs me.

i always worry about my hair and look. i spend bout 20 mins in the bathroom each day messing w/ my hair and im a heterosexual male (ie not gay).

i often have a feeling like somebodys watching me. i always pull down window blinds and curtains (i live on the first floor). and i feel uncomfortable in bathrooms like someones watching me. thinking about those small cameras you can put anywhere (those sick bastards).

i guess a lot of people have similar 'quirks', some that are very common.

i also stay up late on my computer which i probably shouldnt do as i dont get enough sleep and ruining my health and sight.

yeah i do that too, but i try my hardest not to say anything when the rugrat's in the car with me... i can hear: "go already, the light IS green", from the backseat.

Falcon4 15th July 2003 06:10

Well, there's a WHOLE lot to be said about life while on base... but, fortunately, I don't spend my whole day there :-)
I could go on and on and on about the things I do while I'm waiting to go out and wait in the cockpit - which, mind you, that cockpit isn't a very pleasant place to be in the summer, in beautiful 120+ degree days... but you learn really fast to sit down and shut up. I usually just sit there and think after I'm all done flipping switches and yakking to ATC. That's where I came up with that MP3 idea which ended me up here. I also think about other things - like what would happen if I put linux on my desktop... I tried that too, and check out my sig.

Oh-- I thought I said I wouldn't talk about that. Oh well, when i'm sitting at my computer, I listen to music all the time... whatever song it is I rarely notice, as long as it has a beat. Sometimes, unless I have my feet crossed under my chair or something, like now, I tap my foot without even noticing it. Which is one reason there was no CD player designed in an F-16 :-P

That's about it, though... when you're trained to stand there - one time I remember was for almost half an hour - you kinda break the habits of fiddling with things, etc. You can't even twiddle a zipper on your suit. So... that's the just of it... I think.

Well, if we're talking about things you say, stuff like that... then, well, my list's a mile long, from telling people to hurry up in the car (though nobody hears you) to yelling at the computer when it dumps my brand new web site... but don't we all? :-)

Falcon4 15th July 2003 06:12

One thing I've always wondered, though, but never learned, is why the heck it's called a "cockpit"... Makes me wonder what female pilots think about the whole deal ;-)

GarbagePoe 15th July 2003 06:18

1) I crack my feet, toes, fingers, wrists, back, elbow, leg, and probably anything else that can be cracked.

2) I bit my lips till the skin comes off. Then I let it bleed a little bit. Then I put a little lemon juice on it to make it sting.

3) I make little noises that annoy people. And when they tell me to stop, I do it louder.

4) I listen to the same song over and over on some days.

5) I can only sleep if the T.V. is on. I need some sound and the lite glow on.

6) Sometimes I forget things that happened two minutes ago.

I think that's it....

J_Bloggs 15th July 2003 07:08

I chew everything.

I fiddle with things, especially if I have nothing to do/I'm wanting for something to happen.

When I watched TV I talked back to it, even yelled at it.

I used to noight be able to sleep with the light off, within the space of a week that because I can't sleep with a light on (at all, eg curtaibs almost tapped shut because of star light), now I'm pretty good as far as that goes but I still prefer no light.

I like to know what the time is, sitting at the computer I have the computers clock, a little clock/timer thing, my watch, and I can turn around and see my alarm clock on the other side of the room. Again, I'm not quite as fanatic about that now, but it's still there.

I click my fingers, neck, toes and my jaw on occasion. I can click my fingers just about every 2 hours, and my pinkies have something that I can click them as much as I want, even every 2 seconds.

It's hard to describe them, but I hate certain textures in foods, they just make me want to throw up even if it tastes nice.

If I have a bottle of coke, it's emoty within an hour or 2 unless I try and savour it.

I have conversations with myself in my head, even argueements.

I sometimes find myself literally wanting to pronunce 'lol'. (sometimes in my conversations to myself)

I change my mind a fair bit.

I do the head nod, or foot tap, or even sing along to songs. Especailly if I'm feeling depressed or something.

I get words mixed when saying them, sometimes typing them and other times even thinking them.

I change my mind half way though thinking, and end up with a thought that doesn't make sense.

I blabber on for ages.

I sometimes like to talk as technical as possible, and get really upset if I can't think of words to use.

I love it when things just flow along and work.

I procrasternate, I'm lazy, they go together.

I always under or over estimate things, very rarly getting it right.

Umm.... thats all I can come up with. (all 2056 characters worth [including this {1994 excluding}])

/edit: I can also be very impatient.

Mr_007 15th July 2003 08:28

Hard work!
option title?

Raz 15th July 2003 10:35

Haha, i do the technical talk thing. Just start using as many big words and possible and complicate everything, then when you can't think of that damned word you give up and get all upset.

If there's a drink next to me i have to drink it, even if i'm not at all thirsy i just keep taking sips, i do it when the page loads on my crappy dial up. Another sub-habit of the fidgeting, i just drink and drink. About a week ago i drank 11 litres of water in the space of 3.5 hours because my connection kept playing up.

Vie 15th July 2003 11:59

Being damb pround of out camping anybody on earth.

Bilbo Baggins 15th July 2003 12:55

1) The ability to crack EVERY joint in my body. Including my jaw and spine.

2) I mix words up all the time, and forgot entire words. Sometimes i just add random words to my speech. I don't know why I do it, I just always have done.

3) The need to acquire gadgets.

zootm 15th July 2003 15:06

sure you don't want to add drug addiction, bilbo?

WHCode RED 15th July 2003 21:55

lol...

I like to crack my fingers and stuff ALOT.

I usually listen to the radio when i am on the computer, and when a sing I like alot comes on, i turn up the volume a bit, and never turn it down until someone tells me its really loud.

I have that drink problem, too. If theres a drink in my sight, i must drink it unless it isnt mine. :p

At times, when i have a long conversation with someone, i like to say "quack" in the middle of quack a sentence.

I am a very organized person. At times. I can also be very messy. At times.

I can get mad very easily, but sometimes its hard to make me mad. I switch around a lot.

I MUST have a watch on me at all times. I dont care if there is a clock on the wall in front of me, i need a watch. Period.

I like to chew on my finger nails.

Thats all i can think of right now but im sure there is more...

An addition to my quirks:

I always have to know the time, even when I have nothing to do.

I got into a fight with myself (in my head) once and it went on and on for three days straight!

When talking to friens, we always talk 'net chat' (simply pronunce lol exactly as it's spelled)

I talk technical just to annoy people :D

Oh, and I also chew on everything; my knuckles and thumbs are the best! :p)

BNIK:Morpheus 15th July 2003 22:36

...that's why I use haha... haha :-)
"LOL" is SOOOOOOO last-millennium!

I dunno why... I tend to cover my face with my hand most of the time, unless I'm using my left hand for something, it's usually in that "thinking" pose...

Yeah, I tend to always look at the clock, though there's nothing to do and I just looked at it 5 minutes ago...

I pop everything, but all at once, when I think of it or when I see someone doing it... or when my neck just hurts *ugh*.
