Funny the way essays go off course

So I'm writting a report on my last year in industrial placement and goto the bit about social skills gained etc etc. And out popped this:
Quote:

As well as the important technical skills I learnt and was exposed to there were other social effects and influences that come from working in a different environment to what you are used to; learning of this kind is to be expected of any prolonged experience of an environment. One of the most prominent and obvious changes is that of a work ethic, you become accustomed to working during the day in a professional manner. Whether this any more productive to my old ways of working throughout the night is debatable but perhaps the ‘shock’ of leaving university for the real world will be lessened because of this newly instilled ‘this is the way things are and they won’t change’ mentality. If this is designed to turn people into good little capitalists is beyond the scope of this paper.
Then I start to wonder whether a computing degree was such a good choice for me :D

Really is funny!

lol :)

the kind of thing whoever is marking the essay will either find very amusing or, more likely, abuse you for

You haven't seen these bit yet either:

I also had an additionally steep learning curve having never used Unix, more specifically Solaris, fortunately being surrounded by lots of Solaris developers made this process as painless as you could hope it to be. I am very glad that I have learnt Unix to a reasonable level now as that is one of the major problems or gripes I have with a Microsoft only computing degree; it’s something I think every computing student should learn.
Quote:

One of the scariest and perhaps slightly embarrassing things about starting to work for a company with such a strong history of Unix with what is widely regarded the best Unix operating system, was that I knew nothing about Unix having come from a ‘Microsoft is the only thing that exists’ course....
I can now at least say that I do have Unix experience which is something I believe will be fundamental in the future for a lot of computing students and future system administrators

Visit a farm in southeast Asia, where the people aren't capitalists, but are just trying to make enough to survive. They work harder every day than any of us ever will most likely.

People are diurnal - we are active during the day. This doesn't hold true for 100% of the people of course, but the fact is that unless you are very wealthy you have to work to provide yourself clothing, food and shelter, and everyone else is working during the day, so most likely you will have to do that as well.

Start your own business Phily, and you can work whenever you want to. :)

I always found I could code a lot better after 6pm, I just couldn't do it during the day I dunno why. I don't see why working during the night is a problem, it's no different from working accross continents with people.

Unfortunately, in real life working often involves an obnoxious, yet indispensible, element. That element is called co-workers.

If you look around, you just might find a coding job that will let you set your own hours.

More likely you will also have to work when you don't want to if you want to keep your business profitable. ;)

Or get a job with negotiable hours and let them worry about keeping it profitable. :p
