Digital audio extraction problem

Lately Winamp or any other media player won't play my CDs in Digital Audio Extraction mode even though I've selected the option. I've tried reinstalling Winamp but its still not working. Recently I've installed and uninstalled Alcohol120% and CDRwin. Could these programs have altered some registry settings?? Any help would be appreciated.
My first drive is a Samsung DVD drive and my second is an old Sony CDR/CDRW drive at 4x/4x/24x if that's of any use. DAE won't work on either for some reason. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't matter a quick system restore sorted it. Thank god for XP!

Sorry for posting 3 times in my own thread but I found out the problem. The Musepack (.mpc) plugin screws with Winamp's settings and stops DAE permanently on all drives. I have to use system restore to get rid of it and get everything working again.

Something screwed up the aspi settings so I used forceaspi and everything's great. But I thought Windows XP wasn't reliant on aspi like Windows 9x..??

correct. windows nt has a native interface to digitally extract from cds but winamp doesn't use it
it's called SPTI (SCSI Pass-Through Interface)

That's one for the wishlist then!
