Dave Gahan's done solo work??? It'd be interesting to hear.

ShyShy 4th August 2003 07:33

i actually read an article about his up-coming solo album at MTV.com. and like i said i only caught part of his new video on MTV2, and surprise of all surprises, when videos or commercial weren't on, they would show an interview done with him. and from what i heard during the video, it sounds promising.

I downloaded "Paper Monsters" a few weeks back, some of it is ok, some of it is not quite as good, it try to not sound like Depeche Mode, but it just can't help it in some places.

The single that was released was ok, but don't be decieved, the single is a different sound to the rest of the album

All in all, not bad for a first solo effort, but nothing stella.

The only thing I've been catching up on this last week..

Got back into the Pixies, havn't listend to them for a long long time, and been listening to a lot of Johnny Cash, in particular his last release, "American IV:the man comes around", stella stuff, a part cover/part original tracks album, magical, his voice is still so powerful after all these years.

Highlights, the title track, just outstanding and Hurt , a cover of the Nine Inch Nails track (check out the video if you get a chance)

Also while talking abotu DM, check out Johnnys cover of Personal Jesus off American IV, the song could have been written for him.

OutlawJim 4th August 2003 20:20

Bon Jovi -- 99 In The Shade (New Jersey)
Bon Jovi -- Living In Sin (New Jersey)
Alanis Morissette -- Unsent (Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie)
Michelle Branch -- Are You Happy Now? (Hotel Paper)
Sting -- Mad About You (All This Time)

dylman 4th August 2003 21:49

Chemical Brothers - The Golden Path - A large departure for them, but it's a grower.

Death In Vegas - Girls - Makes me dance about like a loon.

Underworld - Cowgirl (Bedrock mix) - See above.

Syntax - Pray - Imagine if Chris Rea discovered techno. Ace.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah - One of the greatest covers of all time. This will be played at my funeral. And my wedding. And many points inbetween.

Namelessv1 4th August 2003 22:59

Staind - Price to Play
Our Lady Peace - Sorry
Rage Against the Machine - Mic Check
Static X - Black and White
Korn - Did My Time

Merlin 4th August 2003 23:59

Van Halen - Van Halen (especially the track Runnin' With The Devil, which I utterly adore)

Yeah, but it's mediocre. Mr Depeche Mode is lost without the others. Better than John Squire's solo efforts though (why doesn't he just reform the Stone Roses and be done with it? :p).

Cylob 5th August 2003 05:24

Dave Gahan's at the bottom of the ream anyway.

I can't see the Roses reforming Merlin, they'd just kill each other. Picture it - Mani's hands would be round Squire's throat, Squires hands around Brown's throat, Brown's hands around Mani's throat. Their idea of a group hug.

ShyShy 5th August 2003 06:07

hmmm, who and what are the Stone Roses??? damn, i always seem to miss out.

randman 5th August 2003 06:12

I'm just discovering Grandaddy. (Late as usual.) I like their sound.

Cylob 5th August 2003 06:29

Slaps for you ShyShy. You must've heard of the Stone Roses (circa 89-94) - they helped usher in Madchester. Their debut is considered (in Britain) as THE greatest record of the 80's.

ShyShy 5th August 2003 07:00

well the years explain everything... i got stuck in texas during that time. i went thru a musical drought during most of that time.

Pixelcraft 5th August 2003 07:25

otherworld - hurry (that song is pumped!)

p.o.d - youth of the nation

staind - outside

alice in chains - rooster

linkin park - faint

godsmack - I stand alone

p.o.d - sleeping awake

linkin park - session

rob dougan - furious angels

I lived in Manchester at the time, what an era to live in , loads of floppy haired, baggy trousered, hat wearing, spliffed out loons wandering the streets like some kind of "care in the community" rejects.

The music was sound, the following that sprang out of it, left much to be desired.

You can still see the occasional roses fan still wandering the streets, trying to recapture the past :p

Never gonna happen. Besides, chances are it would be a disaster.

Mani pretty much holds no grudges against the other members, but he's in the Scream, he doesn't need to reform the Stone Roses.

Brown and Squire, regardless of whether they could put there old differences behind them, are musically miles apart now. Difficult to imagine them meeting in the middle. I really like Brownies solo stuff, saw two gigs last year. Squires solo album I'm not so keen on.

Reni is totally out of the picture. He has a new band 'The Rub' and he plays lead guitar. He don't play drums anymore, (which is perhaps the saddest part of all this) :(

Don't make me post the dictionary.com definition of 'joke' ;)

ripe 5th August 2003 14:08

Why not??
I'm always up for learning new words...
:weird: :D

but, I was responding more to Cylob's joke that they'd all be at each other's throats.
Anyway, we all know it won't happen, but it's still interesting in a 'what if?' kinda way...

HA! I'm probably the first person to post classical music :D ;)

taylormemer 23rd August 2003 07:15

Recently I have been listening to alot od SlipKnoT and I have no idea why. I have managed to add some Nirvana, Murderdolls and System Of A Down to my favourites. Linkin Park is also in there.

Albums for SlipKnoT
Iowa
People = Shit*
Disasterpiece*
My Plague*
The Heretic Anthem*
Gently*
The Shape*
Skin Ticket*
Iowa*
SlipKnoT S/T
(sic)*
Purity*
Scissors*
Prosthetics*
Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat.
SlipKnoT*
Gently*

System
ADD,Toxicity,Mr. Jack,Chop Suey.
Nirvana
InBloom, Smells Like Teen Spirit(I think everyone likes that one) and Dumb.
Murderdolls
197666, Die My Bride, Dawn Of The Dead, Twist My Sister and Slit My Wrists.
I have also been listening to some Linkin Park, the only one of any significance to me would be Somewhere I Belong. I dont like LP that much simply because they have this rap sense in there singing which i dont like.
Last but not least, Atmo's songs. I downloaded some of Atmo's songs which you can find in his "Give Your Subwoofer A Work Out" thread here in Music 'O' Rama.
Sadness and Ether, I listen to on a regular basis. Those are definitly some of my favs.

Thats it for now, I might add more later.
