Francois K was/is some shit hot DJ type from New York, came up thru the 70's and 80's

You might know him from some of his mix work on the Cure, Kraftwerk, or his production of Depeche Mode from the early 90's, in particular the Violator album, or any of the single mixes from the album, check out "enjoy the silence (bass line)" mix  , personally I don't think Violator would have been half the album it was without his production, the original Enjoy the silence on the album was mixed by someone else and it stands out like a sore thumb from the other 8 or 9 Francois K produced tracks, I replaced it on my burnt copy with a version mixed by him :D

Still producing, dj'ing and mixing today.

Check out his record label,

Cylob 9th August 2003 11:41

 Cheers.

I notice his work's pretty sparse. Must be the time of day.

Cylob 9th August 2003 12:13

I have just 3 albums from DJ Egg's list. Adding:

Underworld - dubnobasswithmyheadman (perhaps my favourite):

Adult. - Resuscitation
Chicks on Speed - Will Save Us All

Mattress 13th August 2003 14:26

ahh yeah Royksopp, I still need to pick up that album.

Twilightseer 22nd August 2003 08:33

I would have to agree with Lifeforms by FSOL, best ambient-techno album ever. I would add a couple of records by The Orb "Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld" and "UF ORB" :)

My knowledge is limited in this area, though :(

I haven't got any of those, I'll put them on my very long lost. I have the Orb/Blue Room and FSOL/Dead Cities. Neither is anything special.

Have you heard either Stranger or Michelle by Clan of Xymox Twilightseer? If you look at AMG you'll see where I'm coming from (if you like New Order or the Cure).....

Ghoti 22nd August 2003 18:07

A bit more "ambient" than "electronic", but I recommend Jonn Serrie:
  • And the Stars Go With You
  • Flightpath
  • Planetary Chronicles I & II

Some great "sex" music:
Music to Disappear In - Raphael
http://www.valley-entertainment.com/...HOS11005-1.jpg

Very tasty "Live" electronic music:
Tangerine Dream - Encore
http://www.germanrock.de/t/tangerine...ver_encore.jpg

laz 23rd August 2003 01:43

Chemical Brothers - Exit plaet dust
DJ Sasha - airdrawndagger
Board of Canada - (any and all of their albums, they are all good)

Rovastar 28th August 2003 09:59

SOme clasic albums listed in this thread:

Underworld - dubnobasswithmyheadman
FSOL - Lifeforms
Kruder and Dorfmeister - The K&D Sessions
Global Communication - 76 14

and adding

APhex Twin - Selected Ambient WOrks 85-92
Four Tet - Rounds

Royksopp *sigh* over hyped and over here. Dear me an average downbeat band with very good marketing. The first ablum release what was that 2 years ago now didn't get teh aclaim they felt it deserve and released it and realeased it and then released singel from liek 2 years ago. Then released remixes of these 2 year old tracks. SOld out completely. The next album will be the true test I guess they will do nothing decent just plenty of advertising.

Cylob 28th August 2003 10:41

I liked Royksopp's album, at least 4 excellent tracks IMO. How can you not like Eple, Poor Leno or Remind Me?? It's how pop music should be.

Rovastar 28th August 2003 10:51

*sigh* Oh well. BTW is your handle after the Electronica Artist Cylob on Aphex Twins Rephlex label (are they still there. *shrug*)

Cylob 28th August 2003 12:17

Correct on both counts. I'm not into the band Cylob really, I just like one of their tracks ('Living in the 1980's') and their name. Most the the Rephlex stuff is just noise. Aphex Twin is total crap. I haven't heard any M-uziq stuff yet, it's not a priority.

Mr Jones 28th August 2003 12:34

I'm amazed no one has mentioned the grad daddy of all Electronic groups, Kraftwerk.

Any of their early stuff should be right up there in any bleep bloopers collection, in fact they have a new album out right now, first in nearly god knows how many years ..

Tour De France Soundtracks..

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/5917082.JPG

Might have to have a bit of a sample of that later...

Captain Bottles 28th August 2003 13:07

Whoever's mentioning Four Tet's Rounds over and over, good stuff. One of my favourite electronica albums of the year thus far.

The new album (if you can call it that) is on my virtual shopping list. About 10 albums down. Should be worth a laugh.

Captain Bottles 28th August 2003 14:44

I've heard it. It isn't bad, per se, but it's no more worth getting than, say, any other decent album - which, since we're judging by Kraftwerk standards, makes it more satisfying NOT to listen to. :(

Don't do it. You'll regret it.

Mattress 28th August 2003 14:53

I don't care much for Kraftwerk, just because you're a pioneer of a genre doesn't automatically make you good.

True, and most Kraftwerk albums IMO are patchy. But they have made some excellent tracks:
The Model
Pocket Calculator
Tour De France
Autobahn

To name a few. Computer World & Trans-Europe Express take a little getting into. But it's ultimately worth the effort.

I'd say their two early albums were hit and miss, but Trans-Europe Express, Man-Machine, and Computer World are all incredible, and Autobahn is without flaw.

I wondered why my HD was cluttered with Francois K stuff. I just remembered, it was this post. Cheers Jones, good taste as always.

Much to my frustration, I can't get a decent copy of his remix of Mulu/Pussycat. 10 corrupted copies outta 10.

Cylob 28th August 2003 16:58

music_man - can you do something about that last image, it's stretched the thread.

yeah, I was wondering if that would annoy anyone . . . just a sec.

edit: hmmm it seems to be too late to edit that post (i don't see why they have this restriction). Anyway how to I contact an admin to get it changed aroung here?

edit 2: I'm going to ba away from my comp for a while so if an admin sees this feel free to remove the last image I posted above, the one that stretches the thread. thanx!

zootm 28th August 2003 19:11

good recommendations, music_man_mpc

Mr Jones 28th August 2003 20:01

Fixed,

In future, it's better to post links to images rather than big ass images, think of the kids on dial up...

We have the restriction for safetys sake, what's to stop someone starting a flame war, calling someone every name under the sun and then editing out all the bad stuff once someone complains about it.

3 Hours is in my opinion way to long to let people edit things, 15 minutes max if I had my way, gives you time to post, review and correct any mistakes you might have made.

There are people still on dialup?? :weird: :igor: :( :hang:

Sorry to sound insensitive, but I've completely forgotten what it was like when download times were an issue. :p

Mogwai: Young Team

Loads of good stuff in this thread. :)

Cylob 30th August 2003 04:32

And I thought Mogwai was a rock band.

zootm 30th August 2003 16:50

mogwai are somewhere in between, if i remember. i haven't heard them in ages, though.

Merlin 30th August 2003 21:34

Heh, everything I was going to say has already been said.

I'll re-iterate Royksopp's Melody AM as a good choice. Then there's Daft Punk's second album, Discovery. It just feels and sounds good. I'm also a fan of Surrender by the Chemical Brothers.

I recognise some of these other names from when I used to trawl the house / ambient sections of the record shops with Jonno. We'd just spin random rare vinyl on the decks all afternoon, I hardly ever bought anything, :blah:

Rovastar 31st August 2003 23:38

I will re-iterate again Royksopp's are an average downbeat/pop combo. Why is it the album had to be re-released (haha I do laugh when they were on best newcomer albums last year. The album came out teh year before.). There are a lot better of that genre. COmpare to more of the genre like dZihan & Kamiens 'Freaks and Icons' of about the same period...or anything from Klein Records, etc, etc
