i'd say
Fatboy Slim - Halfway Between the Gutter and ther Stars and the soundtrack to "pi" |
|
strictly speaking not electronic (all the instruments are analogue), but it's the same kinda music:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg add n to (x) - avant hard and this is great too: http://www.artistdirect.com/Images/S...92414c1504.jpg the orb's adventures beyond the ultraworld |
Howdy HarsH.
Some great choices already, Avante Hard, K&D Sessions, Out There and Back. I'm investigating Francois Kevorkian (some sort of master mixer?). Knowing Mr Jones it's A+ stuff. Adding: Ladytron - 604 http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...54141ztub6.jpg Miss Kittin & the Hacker - First Album http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...15320qsgd7.jpg |

You might know him from some of his mix work on the Cure, Kraftwerk, or his production of Depeche Mode from the early 90's, in particular the Violator album, or any of the single mixes from the album, check out "enjoy the silence (bass line)" mix  , personally I don't think Violator would have been half the album it was without his production, the original Enjoy the silence on the album was mixed by someone else and it stands out like a sore thumb from the other 8 or 9 Francois K produced tracks, I replaced it on my burnt copy with a version mixed by him :D Still producing, dj'ing and mixing today. Check out his record label, http://www.wavemusic.com http://www.wavemusic.com/wave-artist/39 |
 Cheers.
I notice his work's pretty sparse. Must be the time of day. |
I have just 3 albums from DJ Egg's list. Adding:
Underworld - dubnobasswithmyheadman (perhaps my favourite): http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...55500ig9ta.jpg Also worth mentioning: 808 State - Ninety 808 State - Ex:El Anthony Rother (any album) Cybotron - Clear Adult. - Resuscitation Chicks on Speed - Will Save Us All FC Kahuna - Machine Says Yes Swayzak - Dirty Dancing Leftfield - Leftism Xymox - Medusa |
Way Out West - Intensify
Thievery Corporation - The Mirror Conspiracy |
Some more (an eclectic lot):
Faultline - Closer Colder Laurent Garnier - Unreasonable Behaviour Cassius - 1999 Lo-Fidelity Allstars - How to Operate With a Blown Mind Aim - Cold Water Music Console - Rocket in the Pocket Alpinestars - B.A.S.I.C. Swayzak - Himwari Royksopp - Melody AM The Shamen - Boss Drum And of course, Electronic - Electronic http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...47743wxv3v.jpg |
ahh yeah Royksopp, I still need to pick up that album.
|
I would have to agree with Lifeforms by FSOL, best ambient-techno album ever. I would add a couple of records by The Orb "Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld" and "UF ORB" :)
My knowledge is limited in this area, though :( |
Quote:
Have you heard either Stranger or Michelle by Clan of Xymox Twilightseer? If you look at AMG you'll see where I'm coming from (if you like New Order or the Cure)..... |
A bit more "ambient" than "electronic", but I recommend Jonn Serrie:
Some great "sex" music: Music to Disappear In - Raphael http://www.valley-entertainment.com/...HOS11005-1.jpg Very tasty "Live" electronic music: Tangerine Dream - Encore http://www.germanrock.de/t/tangerine...ver_encore.jpg |
Chemical Brothers - Exit plaet dust
DJ Sasha - airdrawndagger Board of Canada - (any and all of their albums, they are all good) |
SOme clasic albums listed in this thread:
Underworld - dubnobasswithmyheadman FSOL - Lifeforms Kruder and Dorfmeister - The K&D Sessions Global Communication - 76 14 and adding APhex Twin - Selected Ambient WOrks 85-92 Four Tet - Rounds Royksopp *sigh* over hyped and over here. Dear me an average downbeat band with very good marketing. The first ablum release what was that 2 years ago now didn't get teh aclaim they felt it deserve and released it and realeased it and then released singel from liek 2 years ago. Then released remixes of these 2 year old tracks. SOld out completely. The next album will be the true test I guess they will do nothing decent just plenty of advertising. |
I liked Royksopp's album, at least 4 excellent tracks IMO. How can you not like Eple, Poor Leno or Remind Me?? It's how pop music should be.
|
*sigh* Oh well. BTW is your handle after the Electronica Artist Cylob on Aphex Twins Rephlex label (are they still there. *shrug*)
|
Correct on both counts. I'm not into the band Cylob really, I just like one of their tracks ('Living in the 1980's') and their name. Most the the Rephlex stuff is just noise. Aphex Twin is total crap. I haven't heard any M-uziq stuff yet, it's not a priority.
|
I'm amazed no one has mentioned the grad daddy of all Electronic groups, Kraftwerk.
Any of their early stuff should be right up there in any bleep bloopers collection, in fact they have a new album out right now, first in nearly god knows how many years .. Tour De France Soundtracks.. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/5917082.JPG Might have to have a bit of a sample of that later... |
Whoever's mentioning Four Tet's Rounds over and over, good stuff. One of my favourite electronica albums of the year thus far.

I've heard it. It isn't bad, per se, but it's no more worth getting than, say, any other decent album - which, since we're judging by Kraftwerk standards, makes it more satisfying NOT to listen to. :(
Don't do it. You'll regret it. |
I don't care much for Kraftwerk, just because you're a pioneer of a genre doesn't automatically make you good.

The Model Pocket Calculator Tour De France Autobahn To name a few. Computer World & Trans-Europe Express take a little getting into. But it's ultimately worth the effort. |

Much to my frustration, I can't get a decent copy of his remix of Mulu/Pussycat. 10 corrupted copies outta 10. |
music_man - can you do something about that last image, it's stretched the thread.

edit: hmmm it seems to be too late to edit that post (i don't see why they have this restriction). Anyway how to I contact an admin to get it changed aroung here? edit 2: I'm going to ba away from my comp for a while so if an admin sees this feel free to remove the last image I posted above, the one that stretches the thread. thanx! |
good recommendations, music_man_mpc
|
Fixed,
In future, it's better to post links to images rather than big ass images, think of the kids on dial up... We have the restriction for safetys sake, what's to stop someone starting a flame war, calling someone every name under the sun and then editing out all the bad stuff once someone complains about it. 3 Hours is in my opinion way to long to let people edit things, 15 minutes max if I had my way, gives you time to post, review and correct any mistakes you might have made. |

Sorry to sound insensitive, but I've completely forgotten what it was like when download times were an issue. :p |
The Prodigy: Music For The Jilted Generation
http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...2.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Mogwai: Young Team http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...2.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Loads of good stuff in this thread. :) |
And I thought Mogwai was a rock band.
|
mogwai are somewhere in between, if i remember. i haven't heard them in ages, though.
|
Heh, everything I was going to say has already been said.
I'll re-iterate Royksopp's Melody AM as a good choice. Then there's Daft Punk's second album, Discovery. It just feels and sounds good. I'm also a fan of Surrender by the Chemical Brothers. I recognise some of these other names from when I used to trawl the house / ambient sections of the record shops with Jonno. We'd just spin random rare vinyl on the decks all afternoon, I hardly ever bought anything, :blah: |
I will re-iterate again Royksopp's are an average downbeat/pop combo. Why is it the album had to be re-released (haha I do laugh when they were on best newcomer albums last year. The album came out teh year before.). There are a lot better of that genre. COmpare to more of the genre like dZihan & Kamiens 'Freaks and Icons' of about the same period...or anything from Klein Records, etc, etc
