The remdition of 2112 on 'Exit Stage Left' is also very good. Played with much zest. I have a soft spot for Caress of Steel, Hemispheres & Permanent Waves. The solo on 'Freewill' is that good I once owned a 'Freewill Cassette' (8 remditions of the song on each side).
I haven't listened to any 70's Rush in months (a real tragedy). I can soon put that right! |
Iron Butterfly - Heavy

fun rush-related quote: "After reading Shakespeare's 'All the world is a stage' line, I was amazed at his genius. Not only could he write classics of literature, he could build a time machine and buy Rush albums." i'm not sure who said that, though. |

The album..."Kick Out The Jams" released in 1969. Actually they were considered the original "punk rock" band. So for heavy metal, lets go back to: http://home.earthlink.net/~dewarjr/paranoid.jpg |
GAH papadoc!!!
MC5! Weren't they the ones who caused the phrase "Banned in Boston" to be originated? |
Quote:
They were definately radical bad boys back then. |
I gotta party with you papadoc!
Does the Old Rose Motel have a bar? |
Of One Blood by Shadows Fall. A new band who is being called the second coming of Metallica by some :)

Great album....pure rage... |

Gee..thanks for leaving me with such a broad selection of choices :) The Battle for LA was good, one of my favorite albums, but you have to give them credit, that was their first album. :)
|
I agree with DragonSon.
|
I'll have to inject a little hair metal into this thread:
http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...77937updz2.jpg Don't be put off by Def Leppard's 90's crap. Their 80's material rocked, High N Dry in particular. |
Quote:
Oh and by the way: Rush, Def Leppard and Guns n' Roses AREN'T METAL. In fact Def Leppard making this list simply horrifys me. My Editions to the list: Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Rhapsody - Dawn of Victory: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg |
buy this album:
http://www.musica.co.uk/images/produ...l/4/480820.jpg SikTh - 'The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out Wait For Something Wild' it's unbelievably complex and good metal. well, i like it, anyway. not traditional metal, really, but loud guitary music, anyway... |
Sepultura's albums, not all of them i believe. This band came out around the same time as Slayer.

Chaos AD is the best one, fact fans :) - followed by roots.
i take it you're not counting all the albums they released after max left? here's another one that may get noticed if there's any british metal fans in here: http://www.et9evo.iofm.net/site/logo...iltercover.gif earthtone9 - off kilter enhancement and what's this? free earthtone9 mp3s on the official site? go educate yourselves, fools! (start with "tat twam asi", that should lead you in, lol). |
Sepultura's albums after Max left don't count  Sorry, but without that voice, they're nothing.
And I agree, Chaos A.D., then Roots. Both amazing albums. Y'know, I'm not a big Slayer fan, but I gotta admit no metal collection is complete without at least one of their albums. |
Slayer, is a wicked band! I neva realised there were goin for 20 years, I wonder if there still going. I havent got enought of their albums, I should get more, same with Sepultura's albums.
|
Slayer's putting out a new live dvd sometime this year I believe.
Edit: It's already out 0_o 2nd Edit: New album in 2004. |
Sounds good, cant wait to see the new album.
|
I haven't heard any Slayer or Sepultura. If I was still in my teen's I'd probably check them out. I was big on Magnum, also a bit of the old Saxon.
Saxon - Crusader http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...73141o8k65.jpg |
The Ultimate METAL Compilation: Add a track to the list, eventually there'll be 10 (very varied) songs:
1. Saxon - Crusader |
2. Fear Factory - Replica
|
Anthrax - One World

@idiot: Good call on the SOAD . . . not sure about the rest though. I was into that new-fangled metal for a while, but it just isn't the same . . .
