It's amazing that a drummer can pen such lyrics.

I've got Vapor Trails...You have to listen to it to like it, but it's good...A recommended buy if you're a Rush fan... :)

My favorite Rush song is Working Man...Sometimes toe long solo gets on me, but it explains my life lately on the weekdays... ;) :D

I must listen to Vapor Trails, my problem is it opens with a monolith of a song and then seems to take a nose-dive. But as you say, you have to give it air time.

Hemispheres is a Sunday morning favourite of mine, 36 mins 13 seconds of pure escapism. The only problem is it ends. :(

vapor trails is fantastic, i would recommend it. neil peart's recent ordeals are shown in every bit of the album - it's a half-angry, half-accepting album. i like it. :up:

well the only track i ever heard is limelight. so i guess it would be my favorite. i always meant to check out the rest of their stuff just never got around to it

You're missing a treat dude. It doesn't matter which album you start with, they're all excellent (1975 through 2002). 16, 17 albums worth.

The only release by Rush that I found disappointing was "Presto", and it wasn't because of the music.

It seems that the low-end was rolled off in the final EQ and I have to punch it up whenever I play it.

Does anybody else notice this or is it just my old ears wearing out?

If I keep going, I'll just end up listing most of their work. I've been a huge fan since I first listened to "2112." In my opinion, their music is among the most intelligent, original, and creative out there. Neil Peart is the best drummer, and finest lyricist there is. But, what do you expect from someone who's nicknamed "The Professor on the Drum Kit?"

I hadn't noticed it. Perhaps you fell for the trick at the start of 'Show Don't Tell' - the ever-so-delicate percussion (which makes you increase volume) followed by the thunderous roar. You could easilly have burst an eardrum then.

Not so much a "volume" issue, just the EQ sounds a tad weak in the low end.
I realize that Geddy plays with a bit of "snap", but all along the bottom end, it just starts weak and stays weak thru the whole set.

I wonder if it's a bad pressing? I've heard of having a bad EQ on the first release and then the tape goes back into mastering for a better mix down. Maybe that's the case for my copy.

Anyway, the music remains, arguably, as some of the best that Rush has produced.

I agree. Perhaps it's just the production - wasn't it their first to be produced by Rupert Hyne? It has a completely different sound to 'Hold Your Fire' or 'Power Windows'.

Y'know, I think you're right.
Different producers have wide ranging "philosophies" about how much bass to allow in the mix.
Hell, even the studio can color how music sounds during mixdown.
I'll need to research "The Rupe" and see what else he's produced and check out his "style".

He also produced Howard Jones & the Thompson Twins. A bit of an odd choice then, but Rush were practically a new wave act from Grace Under Pressue onwards (you could arguably call it synth pop). I always preferred Peter Colins production to Hynes' anyway. Imagine if Colins had produced Presto - it could've sounded Hold Your Fire-ish. They should've pressed 2 different versions!

I also found where he did a Stevie Nicks album.
There's just not that much out there (Google) for Rupert.

I never got into Rush... But I know they're talented... Geddy Lee is a pro... Plus he's Canadian too! ;)

Rush make up for Celine Dion, Bryan Adams & Alanis Morisette. All is forgiven.

Ok so i downloaded my first Rush song today, yer their ok, there not the best, for some reason they remind me of Queen......Overall the song i got was called Tom Sawyer not a bad song.

Tom Sawyer's a classic. Try 2112 and Spirit of Radio.:) The former's 20:33 long. Another good one to start with - Natural Science. Rush rock!

Nah, oil has no real value to me but I can trade it for a lot. Would you ever trade Rush for anything? I think it's more like striking gummy bears - lots of them. Mmmmmmm gummy bears....

My personal favorite is "Time Stand Still" from Hold Your Fire.
Although there are musically "better", this song's lyrics go right into my heart, probably because of my own current chronology.

While I do have some modern and alternative rock, my mainstay is progressive rock such as Rush and King Crimson.

Power Windows and Hold Your Fire are unique in the music world. There's nothing before or since that sounds quite like it - complicated arrangements, intelligent lyrics, clever interplay between guitar & synth. Tredding new territory? Yes.

sorry Cylob, Different Stages is a good triple live cd, but its going on ebay...

I found Different Stages to be a mixed bag. The newer tracks (Animate etc) sounded better than the older. I'm not a huge fan of the 'live album', the only one I treasure is The Cure/Entreat.

Anyway Orac, Power Windows.:up: A man with taste.

Different Stages should go for about 8 squid.
