Shoutcast developement STOPPED

I've heard from a german site, shoutcast will no longer be developed.

Is it true?
IMHO it must be so, because there was a very long time no more update....... and there ARE known bugs!

Sawg 5th September 2003 18:46

Ummmm.... don't trust the Germans. :D

We're slaving away in our free moments on SHOUTcast 3.0, which will provide nifty features like multiple stations per host, user authentication, broadcaster registration, support for our new high-fidelity, low-bitrate codecs, integration with ad-insertion services, network localization, and NSV video support as well. Expect to see betas in the first quarter of next year!

Crazy english-speakin' dudez :D :D :D :D :D :D

Why v2 or even BUGFIXES are not released :(((((((

FesterHead 5th September 2003 20:06

What bugs?

DJLopez 5th September 2003 20:45

HAHA,
you make me smiling!

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....threadid=89325

DSP :: Left Channel Disappears Bug
DSP :: Encoder 1 Defaults to 24 kbps When Switching Input Device Bug

And I found 2 others... it's because run some streams...
But these 2 are HEAVY :)

LollipopLustKil 5th September 2003 20:48

Well, those aren't very big. You can easily bypass them, so what's the need to waste time on fixing a bug? If I were them, I'd spend all my time on V3.0 like they are now.

Jay 5th September 2003 20:56

the shoutcast dsp plugin (from what I hear) is being redeveloped to include the new multi-format nature they are going for. This is just speculation but I think they may be waiting on Winamp5 for licensing reasons.

As for SHOUTcast Server itself, there are really no major bugs at this time that need fixing, and the DSP is easily replacable with other options.

DJLopez 5th September 2003 21:11

Hey come down, I AM letting shoutcast streams, and I get nearly EVERY WEEK (!!!!!!!!) a mail, why *I* would drop their streams to 24kb/s!!

I could KICK the developers for NOT FIXING this DAMN SH!T F*CKING BUG _EVERYDAY_ !!!!!!!!!!!!

F*ck *ff workarounds, I also develope applications, and I try to fix bugs ALWAYS !!!

It's nice, if sc isn't died, but it would take about 1 day to fix this DAMN bugs.

Perhaps you're intelligent enough to know:
MY WRITTEN ENGLISH SUXX, but some ppl DONT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH!

So this ppl can't understand these bugs...................

Fix it,... it takes no much time..... :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

biscoradio 5th September 2003 21:27

Just don't use encoder #1 and your streams won't fall back to 24kbps. Isn't that easier than responding to emails and complaining about a free software product? I think so. Just like the Germans, instead of doing things the easy way, they want to get mad and kick everyone. ;) The bug is just on encoder 1... not too hard to work around.

You dont read what I write...
I'm letting streams... I get EVERY DAY questions about this F*** bug, and sometimes they say, I am limit their streams to 24kb/s.

EVERY DAY...

But instead of copy-paste the wrong sourcecode (from encoder2) & compile it again.... WORKAROUND.

Made by ppl without culture :p

YtseJam 6th September 2003 11:31

Sawg, that was said back at November 20th, 2002...

FesterHead 6th September 2003 18:38

Your encouragement for completing any bug fixes or development is not in******ting.

Calm down, drop the pseudo swear words, and present your arguments in a reasonable fashion.

It's easier to catch flies with honey than vinegar.

Dunno how often, but for you again:

- there are users, they don't understand english, so they can't read workarounds!
- there are users, they don't even KNOW, that this 24kbps-issue IS a bug!
- there are users, they even don't read forums, because they are too big to get an answer (see microsoft bug/security-hole db)

This 24kbps-issue COULD be fixed in some hours...

Why the heck I should use workarounds? The developers could fix it... FAST... they only DON'T WANT.

And - see above - I AM developer............

Is this for you a reasonable fashion?

LollipopLustKil 7th September 2003 01:37

Do YOU understand english? Found some errors in that message of yours.

If your a developer, why don't you fix the bugs your self instead of bitching about it. Your acting like your all big and mighty, fix the bugs you found and get over it. The people that made SHOUTcast must have alot of things going on if they can't find the time to fix it.

If that the time, they would fix the bugs, make a better layout for their site, update the news a bit, and more. They just can't find the time to do it all.

It's not open-source! Gimme the sourcecode, and I'll fix it!

It would take about some hours, 1 day max. !!! For fixing badassbugs it's not much time...

They don't fix bugs, they don't change layouts/designs, they don't write news... them are developing sc_v3 - OK - but I was talking about fixing bugs, which would take approx. 1 day, and they don't do

LollipopLustKil 8th September 2003 22:06

SHOUTcast really isn't a company, it's just a few people that made it. There's no huge corporation invloved, and these people have lives of their own also to deal with.

ciacomix 9th September 2003 09:02

Personally i m still using the old DSP 1.80, the main reason is that the title update is working if you press "apply". I tried everything with the DSP 1.82b, but i m simply not able to set my own title when i m streaming using a line-in source - and as i know there`s no workaround for it.

Jay 9th September 2003 14:32

heh, you just mentioned the work around :)

Erm, Nullsoft is owned by AOL Time Warner who are a very very huge corporation, not that i'm complaining about shoutcast or winamp i think they are both great, just though i'd point it out tho ;-)

sogster 14th September 2003 00:19

If they open sourced the linux version of sc_trans I would be a happy camper. I just use Holyshout however. Version 3 of the server looks good -- I just hope they don't forget a variety of streaming interfaces....I think it is such a task that should not have to require a GUI (winamp plugin) to function -- because you are not playing the song, you are just sending it to the server.
