Yeah, but you're a drummer. I can say but one thing:
New Order - Blue Monday |
I took that into accout as I was posting......yer I just dont like the electric way, not my style.
|
Alot of bands use both. A bit of traditional drumming can be complimented with a machine effect, I suppose it depends on what you're after. Incidentally, 2 of my favourite bands who started with drum machines later employed drummers (Pop Will Eat Itself and Carter USM).
Supposedly the Casio 808 was the best drum machine of it's time, the band '808 State' even borrowed the name.:D |
In SlipKnoT, one of the band members uses something like the Casio there, but I'm pretty sure its not one of those,he's the sampler in the band but i've looked everywhere and I can't find out what a sampler does, he uses a Yamaha "Emulator". But I dunno.

Here's my favorites: Neil Peart (greatest drummer ever):cool: Virgil Donati (solo and Planet X, most incredible feet of any drummer alive and just killer overall) Danny Carey (tool) Billy Cobham (solo, Mahavishnu Orchestra) Terry Bozzio (zappa, missing persons, bozzio-levin-stevens) Simon Philips Phil Collins Mike Portnoy (dream theater, O.S.I., liquid tension experiment) Jim Keltner (studio drummer extraorinaire) Rod Morgenstein (dixie dreggs, platypus, winger) Jeff Porcaro there are many more that are slipping my mind at the moment but the ones listed above are the creme de la creme IMO. |
Quote:
UK are Eddie Jobson Terry Bozzio John Wetton the big ego of John Wetton made the band explode otherwise the could have made more albums. |
Bill Bruford also drummed for UK (I think Terry Bozzio replaced him later).
Wasn't Allan Holdsworth (gtr) also in UK, at some point? btw, I'd already pointed out Watadoo's mistake in the post straight after ;) :p Impressive list there though! Simon Phillips  Amongst many other projects, was co-drummer/percussionist on Mike Oldfield's 'Crises' (the finale of the title track being the highlight. Truly awesome!) :) |
It took its time until Mike Portnoy appeared here ...
He's one of my favourite drummers. He played his best on the liquid tension experiment albums. Others are Terry Bozzio often mentioned - of course ... drummer from tool. mike mangini ("mr. magic hands"). - on youtube you can see his world record in "single strokes per minute". |
Richard D. James
Tom Jenkinson Amon Tobin ... |
|
Igor Cavalera (ex Sepultura)
|
Mike Portnoy anyone?
Only ONE person has mentioned him, yet he is one of the most successful and influential drummers of today! Also, Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) is good. |
John Dolmayan - System of a Down
John Bonham - Led Zeppelin Terry Bozzio - Frank Zappa Mike Portnoy - Dream Theater Dave Lombardo - Slayer Danny Carey - Tool Lars Ulrich - Metallica Roger Taylor - Queen |
