Winamp 5

Anyone check out the AVS in winamp 5? I took a brief look at it, and it looks as though it is version 2.6.1, which is one whole minor number newer than the one in winamp3 :) or am i just on crack?

anubis2003 8th September 2003 18:15

You aren't supposed to bring up wa5.

It's not out yet. Wait for it to come out and then discuss.

Gonzotek 8th September 2003 18:24

We're mostly concerned about linking:

Mentioning it in reference to AVS imnprovements is ok, just don't offer it for download.

Justin's just done some new things for AVS:

Added some new AVS effects, at mig's request. Gonna make AVS for
wa5 good mmm.

Rovastar 8th September 2003 18:36

But is that the upgrade like 2.5.1 that came with wa3. *shrug*

Although I am not holding my breath about the new stuff just yet folks.

Sadly effects can mean anything from a new preset or whatever. Still awaiting confirmation. It could be news we have all been waiting for Stranger things have happened or maybe we have just had too much of moltarx's crack. :);)

jheriko 8th September 2003 18:43

Glad to see the new effects are at mig's request... they're bound to be jaw dropping if they come from a guy with such an enormous grasp over the power of AVS. Bound to be much better than the huge list in the AVS Wishlist forum from all of us lamers, I guess nullsoft keep visiting there and don't update AVS because our ideas are so lame.

Gonzotek 8th September 2003 18:54

Perhaps it's mig who is reading the forums and requesting the top wishlisted items to Justin who is too busy to check. Perhaps you should reserve your comments until they come up with the new release...or fail to...

Lack of time, resources, and manpower to develop doesn't make wishlisted ideas lame, just not doable.

Rovastar 8th September 2003 19:25

jheriko LOL that was good. :)

Couldn't have said it better myself. :)

I was being to think I was the only one who cared about improved visualization stuff with my recent rant backstage.

Gonzotek 8th September 2003 19:54

I <3 all vis plugins. I've still got a winamp folder full of every vis plugin I could find under the sun, from something like 3 years ago.

Heh, I just recalled one of my early favorites, G-Force, and I went to check if andy o'meara still existed in online form and it seems he is about to release a new version...cool

Hmmm, interesting. Could be anything from making a few APE's standard to global variables. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

Deamon 8th September 2003 21:02

We'll see, I'm quite curious what they made of it :). I too wait before posting anything about it, till the final version is out. There could be some major improvements in AVS. Some extra effects are sweet, but removing bugs and other things mentioned in the wishlist would be great.

mikm 8th September 2003 21:09

Funny that I found this three months ago.

(Unless there are things I haven't found in the new AVS)

anubis2003 9th September 2003 01:14

Glad to see they are doing something. Yay for AVS.

mikm 9th September 2003 01:50

Hmm...the new effects must be in a later alpha than I have. Can't wait.

Zevensoft 9th September 2003 06:28

I just hope they REMOVE THE WINDOW SNAPPING or else I'm stickin' to 2.5.1

Tuggummi 9th September 2003 06:30

Tell me when a version that is truly uptaded since 2.5.1 and i will change to that... otherwise wa2.81 and avs 2.5.1 as long as i make AVS!

[Ishan] 9th September 2003 12:55

And about that save prompt...........

Deamon 9th September 2003 13:24

and the rest of the wishlist... but hell, it's a start :)

Yathosho 9th September 2003 15:54

subfolders!

anubis2003 9th September 2003 16:19

hell yes - killahbite just named the one thing that really pisses me off. We need subfolders.

UnConeD
-Whacko I
-Whacko II
-Whacko III
-Whacko IV
-Whacko V
-Whacko VI

Deamon 9th September 2003 19:49

for example :) But subfolders really are important. Maybe someone can contact Justin about it. It shouldn't be that hard to make. (I guess..?)

jheriko 9th September 2003 19:56

I really should wait to comment.. but hey I was in a foul mood and.. well thats no excuse... I'll just apologise for being rude.

New version of G-Force... I'm gonna have to check that out...

Maybe vis will pick up pace again, we do have a fresh Milkdrop coming and Dilate too...

You do know that you can use either vis_avs 2.5.1 and vis_avs 2.6.1 on any version of Winamp 2x don't you? And switch between them whenever you want.

anubis2003 9th September 2003 22:21

yes, but 2.91 has a few bugs that 2.81 doesn't have. WA 2.91 AVS 2.51 is the best combination.

Tuggummi 10th September 2003 05:18

And i just don't like that wa 2.9x is basicly the same as wa3, which i hate :igor:

mikm 10th September 2003 21:06

Not really. It still is stable. It just has video support (which I don't use) and the ml.

Yathosho 10th September 2003 23:51

i agree with m²k. people with slow machines should probably turn off the library, but i havn't experienced any problems with it, not even on my old athlon 700.

dude, i dunno about the dilate ;) ive been derailed a few times now with different ideas for it, i think we need some major architect to help me out with the basic design of it... thats one thing i can tend to suck at :)
