Does anyone else think that the creator of one of the biggest illegal file sharing utilities out there invoking the "Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §§512(c)(3) and 512(d)(3))", is a little bit ironic?

ÇhäötïÇLüñätïÇ 10th September 2003 07:31

Hah.. Sheet.. that's hilarious... who cares about kazaa anyways. I don't use that crap. There's much better alternatives out there.

It's K++ that's mentioned, not Kazaa. As far as I'm concerned, it ain't Kazaa. Kazaa is crap, K++ is awsome.
I think people just see the Kazaa in the name, and automaticly hate it.
K++ is worked on by a few small time programmers with many other program developers making add-ons, and other features, etc. etc.
Basicly a bunch of people and forum menbers contribute tools and ideas, making K++ better and better all the time.
Kazaa and K++ aren't even closely related, other than they both use the Fast Track Network, which is the biggest.

ÇhäötïÇLüñätïÇ 10th September 2003 08:22

Well thanks for clearin that up for me. I don't really deal with p2p. Cept maybe SoulSeek.. that kicks ass. Get all my stuff from underground warez boards.. and irc too. Take it eazy.!

Joel 10th September 2003 18:46

wow... I like a lot K++... Where the humanity will go :(

Shenlong 10th September 2003 21:09

I can only say one thing on this; Oi...

Starbucks 11th September 2003 01:37

Well thank GOD I have K++ 2.4.2. It's the BEST one ever.

godoncrack 11th September 2003 01:45

This is gay.
I found out about K-lite on Tech-TV
some show i forgot the name of it
i remember what the said at the end of the expose' they did on K-lite
"Sure its a hacked version, but who is Kazaa to claim copyright infringement."
This is gay.

corkhead0 12th September 2003 01:34

They only took the links off Google, try some of the sites and you will still find them.

whiteflip 12th September 2003 04:57

If I searched google for Kazaa lite and found nothing I would beleive Kazza lite to be dead.

thagor_4 13th September 2003 06:29

wtf? I don't understand why/how the RIAA can legally force a group of individuals to not release a product like k++. Not only do the makers of K++ not have anything personally to do with the music/movies/software that is shared on their program, they don't even have any control of the network that is used... here's an example: a guy robs a music store at gunpoint. the next day, the cops catch him, and he's put in jail. the day after that, the government puts out a ban that prevents ANYONE from buying a gun. Their reason? "To protect the interests of the Music Industry."
It's stupid lawyers and executives that are the real problem in the music industry. They don't give us usable, or viable alternatives to direct p2p filesharing for music related things. I personally don't even really listen to much, if any commercially released/sold music. I get a majority of the music i listen to from K++, and none of it is illegal. So why is it that I'm being prevented from downloading files that I have EVERY legal right to? I like how Ben Affleck put it (i know, kinda odd...): The majority of music that is purchased every year, is bought by the same group of individuals who usually spend around $200 a year on music. So instead of completly shutting down fileshareing, don't we just offer monthly/yearly subscriptions that allow for unlimited downloading of LEGAL commercial music/media? If you think about it, everyone saves/makes money. the consumer spends less, and the record label makes more, and so does the artist. you'er cutting out a middle man that takes usually around a third or more of the profits.
Besides IMHO, most "Musicians" or "Artists" or whatever the hell you want to call them, make more money in a single year than I'll make in my entire lifetime. So what the hell do they have to complain about?

anyway, that's just my 8.37 cents worth...

whiteflip 13th September 2003 08:49

Sorry but you are grossly misinformed.

Kazaa is sending letters to Google to remove links to Kazaa Lite. Its illegal under the DMCA to link to illegal copyright material or something.

Kazaa Lite copys the code in Kazaa and markets it as its own product and Kazaa is invoking the DMCA to get Kazaa Lite unlisted on google so people cant search for it.

Kazaa lite is based outside of the US but Google is not so Google has to follow the US laws and remove links to Kazaa Lite.

Its Ironic that Kazaa a company that created software specifically to get copyrighted material is invoking the DMCA.

thagor_4 13th September 2003 16:41

If Google is supposed to be removing K++ links, then why can you still find it on a search there? Google is very capable of removing these links, and yet you can still access the program, and it's ORIGINAL web site(s). (By original, I mean the *Official* K++ webpage) I think I understand what you mean about what is happening with Kazaa, but I'm still in question about the recent bull that the riaa has been hashing up about trying to track, and sue (random)people who share music p2p. Like that 12 year old kid... All I know, is I'm going to burn K++ 2.4.2 on a cd, and I'll share it for however long I feel like it... along with all the other thousands upon thousands of $$ worth of software, music(heh), and other things I currently posess.

As a side note: why do the people at kazaa care if a small team of individuals are making a product *based* off their code? K++ is a non profit program, and the network that is used for Kazaa is used by dozens of other client programs as well. I think that as long as K++ is non-profit (completly free), Kazaa shouldn't bitch about it. Besides, if they have such a problem with it, why did they wait until now to do something about it? K++ has been around for several years...

corkhead0 13th September 2003 16:55

Kazaa is charging for thier service now. If a free product is available to do everything Kazaa can do but without spyware, do you think Kazaa might like to see it disappear?

The only difference between K++ and others is that Kazaa has a decent reason to kill off K++ (copyright violation).

Mattress 13th September 2003 17:04

I think you're missing the irony of the writers of a p2p software being pissed off about copyright violation.

corkhead0 14th September 2003 01:40

I'm not missing the irony, but Kazaa is within thier legal rights doing this.

DJHotIce 14th September 2003 02:22

They just want money now because ads aren't prob doing real good right now ;)

whiteflip 14th September 2003 07:05

K++ should just make an add on to kazaa. you download kazaa install K++ and it gets rid of Kazaa's crapness and alters it and such and puts its own good features in.

devils night 15th September 2003 03:10

pay for Kaaza? heh how about the irnony of buying kaaza and then you get sued by the RIAA. so you buy kaaza for $20-30 but later have to pay $200 dollars from the RIAA sueing you

whiteflip 15th September 2003 08:54

more like 20,000 dollars
