Winamp appears to be playing CD's but no sound.

I hope someone can help me. When I play CD's in my machine through winamp, it appears to be functioning normally but there is no sound output. However, when I play the CD using Windows Media Player it plays normally. Interestingly the same behaviour is exhibited by Real Player (appears to play but no sound). Winamp plays MP3's fine, just not CD music. Any ideas anyone?

get winamp 2.91 if you don't have it already: http://classic.winamp.com/download/

ctrl+p > preferences > plugins > input > nullsoft cd/line-in plugin > configure > check 'enable digital audio extraction when possible'

you might need to install an aspi layer on win2k/xp
