Winamp 5 poll

Would you get winamp 5 if it came out right now bugs and all?

ryan 14th September 2003 21:25

Nope...

mikm 14th September 2003 21:27

No. I would rather wait for it to be bug-free.

Mike H. 14th September 2003 21:28

I've always used the newest Winamp I could get. I even used the Winamp 3 alphas! So yes, if I were still using Windows, I would use Winamp 5 right now.

If it's based on Winamp 2.91, how buggy could it possibly be anyway?

Namelessv1 14th September 2003 21:28

I'd rather wait for a bug-free new version of Winamp rather than download a virtual beta version that was pushed out the door like with Winamp 3.

k_rock923 14th September 2003 21:38

nope. i won't be downloading until its officially supported by Nullsoft. Which i think won't be until the final version. i sure don't wanna be the one who has my computer fubar'ed because of a beta version and then when i complain to get "well sorry, you shouldn't have downloaded a beta version if you were so concerned"

Triton4 14th September 2003 21:58

I'm willing to wait until the final, complete and bug-free WA5 comes out. I don't want the WA3 blunder to happen ever again.

DJHotIce 14th September 2003 21:59

ME2 it does have it strides but nothings good like good 'O win2.x

SSJ4 Gogitta 14th September 2003 22:02

"Just as there is no such thing as a completely bug-free program, no program can be completely debugged."

m0e 14th September 2003 22:05

If a version of Winamp5 (or whatever it will be called, did they decide yet?) was available from Nullsoft I would download it immediately and as soon as I had a few extra hours I would start playing with it to work the bugs (if any) out and try all the cool new features. Woot.

apollos 14th September 2003 22:52

yeah, I'd use it with bugs, I'm curios to see what else Nullsoft have thrown into Winamp 5. They sure do take their time perfecing it, blighters :p

UpperKEES 14th September 2003 22:56

I agree with Gogitta that even an official release will contain bugs. I though the poll was about a Nullsoft release anyways. Then I'll get it, including the small ones that Nullsoft permits us to experience. ;)

I never found that many bugs in Winamp 3. I had one of the most crash-prone computers in the world, and I used Winamp 3 and had few problems. The only real problem I had was a change in the sound at the end of a song with the EQ turned on. But almost no crashes.

I don't think the big fuss was about the bugs really, it was more about the efficiency.

laz 15th September 2003 00:06

I am a WA3 man myself, WASABI FOR LIFE!! hehe.

Oh well, I have not fallen in love with foobar2000, so I no longer use WA. (also, WA3 build 499 takes years to boot up, at 99% cpu usage, I need to reinstall it, but to lazy)

GarbagePoe 15th September 2003 00:34

I wouldn't use it if it was all buggy. But then again, like someone said above, it's based on 2.91 so how buggy could it be?

jakeledel 15th September 2003 01:11

i would download it and try it to see if it worked well, if it did..keep it, if it doesn't, delete it n wait.

case with winamp3..never liked it, never used it

anubis2003 15th September 2003 01:14

I would get it, but I'd still probably go back to 2.

I have what I want - AVS 2.7.

duh. It is 2, with some extra, optional plugins and bugfixes.

anubis2003 15th September 2003 07:48

Yes, but it will probably have some downsides as well.

nope, well, not yet at least.

Viper007Bond 15th September 2003 08:20

I'd download it.

Mr_007 15th September 2003 08:42

We should meet final version!;)

Good point.
I wouldn't use it if it were buggy either, but the fact is, Winamp5 is just Winamp 2x with a couple new plugins, therefor it shouldn't have any bugs, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't have any. It's perfect. If it weren't perfect, I would have went back to a 2x version.

ctkatz8086 15th September 2003 16:07

if you mean download it right now, no
if you mean download it later but officially released by nullsoft, yes. but if i had problems with it (and with me i can do that. i have gotten the blue screen of death with xp) it's back to 2.95 for me.

Have you ever seen bug free software?

Sure I'd get it. Like will already pointed out. It's based on Winamp 2. So I don't expect many bugs in it. And besides that, how would you know if it got bugs if you haven't tested it yourself?

liquidmotion 15th September 2003 21:43

kaboon, you so smart. winamp 5 is totally worth the wait ;)

bored154 16th September 2003 01:08

I'm just assuming it has bugs with the new features other people have been talkin about

Yes, I would. I dig :winamp: becouse of all these lovely small options you can sitt 'n play with. And there's always new settings in new versions, doesn't matter AAC-ripping deosn't work or freeformskin support sucks. IT'S FUN!

will 29th September 2003 15:58

What if you had to pay to get full benefit from some of the new features?
(or have a free version with all the old shit, and some new shit)

clownercockwise 29th September 2003 16:26

I voted to wait. I haven't forgotten how wrecked WA3 was when it was prematurely released. As for paying for it, probably not. I've already got EAC, RazorLAME and Nero to take care of most of those things, and I don't care about video or freeform skins.

WhiteRayven 29th September 2003 16:43

I have downloaded every version of winamp i could since winamp 1.0.
Just to try them out, So Winamp5? For sure, I can't wait to get my virtual fingers on it. I wanna play.

Vie 29th September 2003 16:46

I would, if and only if, it has no more bugs than the current winamp 3.

Avalon 29th September 2003 16:49

You know, I may just do it, I did it with winamp3 just to see what it was, and I love seeing what's new and avaiable out, so yeah I would.

At the moment I don't have the need to. But when I knew I had to pay for the final release, I would certainly 'try' a leaked copy as I might never get my hands on the final one.

PS: WA5 will probably have auto sync folders! Yeah!

CD999 29th September 2003 19:09

It's one of the few players I have seen out there with free AAC encoding, and I'm holding onto it if just for AAC ripping.

eleet-2k2 29th September 2003 23:08

I guess it all depends on the bugs it has as a beta when it's leaked. If it's not too bad, and fairly stable, then ya, otherwise maybe not.

pure-krypton 30th September 2003 03:39

have they updated the avs plugin, if so i'd use winamp 5
