Randomly playing a track by one artist
 

I have thought of an idea i would like to see in future versions of winamp as i think it would be used.

At the bottom of the playlist editor there is that search box. When you use it it highlights all the tracks with the words you have entered in. Well i thought of another function that could be added to that search facility. It would involve adding two buttons by the side of the search box. This would simply mean making the box smaller allowing two buttons to be placed in. These buttons would be 'play all' or 'play'. So now if neither of these buttons are on then the search facility would just highlight its findings as normal. However if say the play button was on then winamp would enqueue one of the findings at random. If the play all button was on then winamp would enqueue all of it's findings to play them all.

This means that say you wanted to listen to a song by a certain artist but wasn't really bothered which then you could press the play button enter the artist's name and winamp would select a track for you by that artist. Also if you wanted to listen to all of your songs by one artist you could select the play all button and winamp would play all of the songs by the artist you entered.

I don't think this idea would take much to implement as it use's functions that winamp already has but i do think it would be a great addition to an already great winamp.

To play all items highlighted by the search function right click on a song listed in the right side panel and choose play. To play random tracks either use the shuffle function (I realize this is not that random) or use the randomize option on the sort list function.

Yes but u can't play a random track by a certain artist. If you have tracks by all different artists in ur playlist and choose shuffle then it will choose a song from the hole list!!!

I'm not totally sure, but cant this be done by using the media library already?
if you sort by artist so you only get a list of a specific artist, can't you make it pick one song randomly in that list?
