How to change "Winamp Media File" into .avi, .mp3 etc. in Windows XP??

I have all my mediafiles in the same folder, and by using Windows explorer that problem is that all files have the same file-extension after installing Winamp : "Winamp Media File". Is it possible to change this extension to .avi, .mp3 and so on depending on the filetype? I have deselected all extensions in preferences/filetypes but the problem is still there. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Go to start --> control panel --> folder options --> file types. Find the extension you want to change, select "Advanced" and go from there.
