Bumping

What's up with all the "bumping?" Ya'll run out of new crap topics that you have to go digging through the garbage to find old crap theads? I'm sure one of you fine fellows will explain this behavior to me.

ryan 23rd September 2003 23:32

I agree, WHY?

dlinkwit27 23rd September 2003 23:57

I assume you mean Raz, right germ?

J_Bloggs 23rd September 2003 23:59

(random guess)
Because anything really crap is moved to the recycle bin, and the good craps all been done before??

Germ 24th September 2003 00:06

Not just Raz

Because if someone starts a new topic, they're only going to find out it's been done before. So many topics covered already. ;)

Germ 24th September 2003 00:18

Well we're not really talking about people posting a new thread and getting harassed by all of you forum ninjas who know every topic that has ever been posted before. We're talking about "bumping just to bump." And yes it's true that there have been many topics, but it's gay and nerdy to jump all over someone because it's been posted before. Also it's getting gay all these people suggesting a better thread to post something in. "Oh gee, this really should be in arts and whatever, but I guess I'll reply anyway." If it needs to be moved, the moderators will take care of it. So yeah, there we go.

DJHotIce 24th September 2003 00:52

I mean I see the pattern here.
Start a new thread previously done before: Get yelled at
Reply to a thread done before: Get yelled at

I don't see what your asking cept to have a new thread or quit posting. Thats just my 2 cents :D

laz 24th September 2003 00:56

I just do one or the other, I dont care, its all for the better, see? No? Damn...
it doesnt bother me one bit.

DragonSon 24th September 2003 02:33

How's about you just don't go into the threads that get bumped, I mean if they annoyed you before, what are the chances that a member bumping it is going to make it any better?

dlinkwit27 24th September 2003 02:37

can someone explain to me what the big deal is? and for the record, i have nver (to my reccoletion) yelled @ someone for reviving an old thread. I have only ever showed people the effectiveness of the search feature ;)

I never said it annoyed me - I am just asking a question, you're getting all pissy for no reason so shut your mouth you dolt.

Dlink, the point is, there ain't no need to point anything out. It's not your job to.

dlinkwit27 24th September 2003 02:53

i see, it is the supermod's job to babysit us in here, and also bilbo's job, wait, bilbo hsa no internet....ok, so it is just Sawg's job. Right. I see the logic, let's have the supermod babysit us. Great idea. I like the idea of the members contributing to the well-beign (kinda) of the forums, but that must jsut be me.

you already noticed.

DragonSon 24th September 2003 02:53

Who's getting pissy? I'm just stating something that I wanted to post. And I don't exactly have to open my mouth to type messages on a text forum.

Germ 24th September 2003 02:56

aw he's so smart he pointed out the obvious fact that people don't use their mouth's when they're typing in text, look everyone at his smartness!

DragonSon 24th September 2003 02:57

Thank you, thank you.

Gonzotek 24th September 2003 02:59

Why do old ideas get discussed even though they're old? Because they still hold some interest to somebody. Same goes for forum topics: stupid or clever or incomprehensible, they hold interest to the bumper. The question I have is why does this seemingly normal behaviour interest you?

-=Gonzotek=-

Germ 24th September 2003 03:01

Just find it funny that there has been such a high amount of it lately. Also, the question I have is why does this seemingly normal behavior that interests me interest you?

Gonzotek 24th September 2003 03:02

Because I'm not sober at the moment. :)

Germ 24th September 2003 03:04

I'm coming down at the moment :/

DragonSon 24th September 2003 03:06

Lucky bastards, I WISH I was drunk, would make me forget the fact that I have to go to work in the morning.

ShyShy 24th September 2003 03:08

I started a thread not too long ago, then someone, not a mod, posted that it had been done before. No big deal, at least I tried. And sometimes the bumps have been interesting to me. Also, I "catch up" with some of the references to past members/posts that have been made.

dlinkwit27 24th September 2003 03:09

you might want to sit down for this, dlink is about to be serious:

I think the problem germ is having isn't the fact that the old threads are being revised, it is the fact that they are being revived with a one word post of "*bump*" or "bumpage" or an image, etc. If the person who revived the thread contributed to the 'conversation' with their own unique idea about the topic, then I don't think there would be any problem. I too find it frustrating when I click on a thread I remember as being interesting and enlightening, only to see that the newest reply is simply "bump." I don't see the point. Without posting your own opinion, there is no new opinion to spark a new tangent of conversation, meaning the conversation is once again dead, and the thread once more drifts into the back pages of the forum.

a) i hope i explained this well enough so that it is esay to understand
b) correct me if I am wrong about any of my assumptions germ

Gonzotek 24th September 2003 03:10

The town lost power today, for several hours. Tomorrow I get to go into work to who knows what chaos. Tonight I drink.

And, yeah, I hate the one word "bump" bumps.

Germ 24th September 2003 03:10

yes very good points indeed, dlink

ShyShy 24th September 2003 03:16

I do find myself occassionally "bumping" threads in the music forum. Mainly because I'll have remembered something that pertained to a specific thread days later. But, I bump informatively. At least I try to.

UpperKEES 24th September 2003 03:18

yep, I agree here as well.

UK

DragonSon 24th September 2003 03:20

I think I may have bumped one or two threads, but I believe I posted something besides that word. The threads I bumped were ones I had posted in previously and wanted the conversation to keep going. Watching something you liked to post in, with intelligent conversation or relevant pictures, like an Arts thread, drift and die isn't exactly what I like to see, especially when I have something to post in it.

dlinkwit27 24th September 2003 03:21

I do assume that we are speaking strictly of WAGD therads, becuase I have *bumped* numerous threads in the skinning section, occasionally posting "*bump*, progress?" and the like, but as far as WAGD is concerned, I stick with what I said above.

DragonSon 24th September 2003 03:24

Well, I bumped my thread, but that was before it got moved to the Arts Forum, so yes, in a way, it was in WAGD.

Is there a way to put it that won't make me laugh my ass off?

LoL, "Forum Ninjas" :blah:

Germ 24th September 2003 08:49

Hey deathazre, two different things we were talking about. Go bug someone else. And no, starbucks - there is only one way I can put it :)

Yes. :)

Ok so i won't bump with one word or picture messages anymore. Happy?

dlinkwit27 24th September 2003 12:30

I'll be happy if you bump them with posts that relate and add the the conversation already, beacuse all of your previous bump attempted obviously failed, as not one (that I see at a glance) of the threads you bumped is still on the front page.

Raz 24th September 2003 13:19

Yes that's what i meant, i'll add my thoughts. A lot of them have already got my thoughts in them at some point though. I just think a lot of the new members would like to contribute to the discussion, and whenever i make a new thread anymore i get bombarded with posts with links to the old threads.

Germ 25th September 2003 11:27

*bump*
