winamp and mono

Hi, I am new to this forum and am looking for some support. Before I ask anything, let me tell you my sound configuration. I am using 2.1 speakers and am connected to a sb audigy 2. The problem that I am having is that I cannot get an avi file to play with sound. I then decided to play another avi file that had sound and discovered that it was in stereo mode. This particular avi file I am playing is in mono mode. I have tried converting the mono to a stero using the cd output plugin but it didnt work. I am lost here, would someone please help me how I can get sound with mono avi files? It would be greatly appreciated!

basicly you need the right decoder to play the audio part of the AVI.

an AVI file is usually made up of streams in 2 sections:
Audio stream-->audio decoder\
.......................................-->AVI file
Video stream-->video decoder/

winamp will play mono files, stereo files and even multichannel files by default. Its hard to tell you which decoder to download, but you should try playing the file in windows media player first. It might download the decoders for you.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I did try using windows media player 9 and ati file player. You think updated sb audigy 2 drivers might help? I dont recall windows media player 9 downloading any decoders, it simply played the movie but without sound.

Load the AVI in GSpot to determine which audio codec is used/required.
