trying to create link on webpage that leads to my stream

Hi. I've browsed thru the FAQ's and even read a few of them but I haven't been able to figure this out. (the FAQ's got me thru the setup and config of the Shoutcast server tho so they're definately useful...).

Anyhoo, I've got Soundcast server installed and everything is working fine. Friends have gone to shoutcast.com and searched for my stream (WBOB Radio) and it seems to work for them. What I want to do though is create a personal webpage with a link that someone can click on and have the link direct them to either soundcast.com where my "station" will be immediately selectable... or perhaps the link from my webpage will just launch Winamp on their PC's and start playing my broadcast.

Problem is (was), that I didn't have a webpage. I do have a DSL account that give me 10 megs of webspace, so using their crappy webpage creation software (something called "sitebuilder") I created a small webpage where I could add my link.

One of the FAQ responses I saw said to just copy the shortcut generated from right-clicking the "listen" button on the DNAS Status page... but all that does if give me 127.0.0.1:8000. That can't be right I don't think. Right now my link takes viewers to Shoutcast.com where they would have to search for my stream before they could access it. Is there an easy (cut and paste) method for linking my Shoutcast stream to my crappy little webpage? Sitebuilder is a point and click application so sending me HTML code is not going to help...

Does this make any sense? Any help will be appreciated!!

Thanks!
bob

DNAS link: http://yourDNASip:yourDNASport
Listen link: http://yourDNASip:yourDNASport/listen.pls

Replace yourDNASip with the ip of the DNAS (SHOUTcast server) and yourDNASport with the DNAS port (default is 8000)

Example:
If your DNAS ip is 123.345.567.789 and your DNAS portBase is 2112, then your links would be:
DNAS link: http://123.345.567.789:2112
Listen link: http://123.345.567.789:2112/listen.pls

Also, if your router doesn't support local loopback then machines on the same lan as the DNAS (you) need to use the lan ip of the DNAS to connect/listen.
Machines not on the same lan as the DNAS (the rest of the world) need to use the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS to connect/listen.

Please don't give out urls with 127.0.0.1 as the ip. That is a local loopback ip.
See RFC3330 for more information.

Please don't give out urls with 192.168.x.y or 10.x.y.z or 172.(16-31).x.y as the ip. That is a private lan ip.
See RFC1918 for more information. Scroll down and look for the section titled:
3. Private Address Space

How to find your ip address (Part I).
How to find your ip address (Part II).

Finally, you can get a static name, such as foo.bar.com (not as cool as that, though :)) from http://www.no-ip.com or one of the other myriad of Dynamic DNS Services.
Then, your links would be:
DNAS link: http://foo.bar.com:yourDNASport
Listen link: http://foo.bar.com:yourDNASport/listen.pls

Please read some polite advice.

That is SO cool! Thanks! I got it to work using my IP address. Well, at least I think it works. I'll have to have a friend check out my site (I broke down and just signed up for some free web-hosting (hostfor2bucks.com)) and make sure the listen link works, but I think it will. Thanks very much for the help. I checked out the "polite advice" and I hear what ya'll are sayin. Everybody hates a tourist, or newbie in this case. :) But hey, I at least got the Shoutcast server install to work without having to ask any dumb questions. :) I thank the FAQ's for that. I'll check out that no-ip.com site as well. Again, thanks for the help. Check me out sometime at www.wbob-radio.com.
