Why is Winamp using 200 kbps of my bandwidth?
I just noticed that when ever I start playing music on Winamp it starts using 150-200 kbps of my internet bandwidth. I turned off the anonymous user information thing and it still does this. I stop Winamp and the usage goes back to 0. Any suggestions would be Preciated.
Thanks |
Are you actually viewing/listening to internet streams in Winamp at the time?
Any 3rd-party Winamp plugins installed? System specs? Windows OS? |
Hey Eggman thanks for the fast response!! No 3rd parties installed. I was using version 1.80 and just upgraded to the latest 2.91 I think using the full install. Winxp Pro is the OS.
Athlon XP 2500 with 512 Mb Ram. |
Sorry should have added this earlier. No I'm just playing mp3's from my hard drive.
|
The official latest version (on the winamp.com website) is v2.91
Sure, 2.92 and 2.95 are both available elsewhere on the net, but they are both unsupported (leaked) betas. Upgrading from 1.80 to 2.9x is quite a large step. There's been 100's of changes since then. I suggest the Uninstall -> Reinstall procedure. If the problem persists, report back here, and we'll take things from there. |
Preciate dat!! I'll try it and see if that fixes it.
|
I uninstalled it and installed the latest version of Winamp 3 d/l from your website and it's now using on average 600 kbps down, 88 kbps up. Go marinate on that!!

Sorry, I don't deal with Winamp3 here. Winamp3 is a different product/player. The latest version of Winamp is 2.91
I suggest you scan your system for viruses, trojans and spyware. All settings relating to disabling internet/connection etc in Winamp 2.x can be found here ps. note, the version of Winamp3 (v1.0 build #488) available at www.winamp.com/download/ is over 12 months old. Winamp 2.91 is only 3 months old. :igor: |
What about disabling internet connection capabilities into WinAMP at all?
Just right at the setup, select no internet connection at all - and then you cant blame the program for stealing your precious bandwidth :D |
