Technical issue
In the FAQ is written WINAMP 2.91 is running on a fast 486 or better a Pentium.
I tried to run WINAMP 2.91 on these machines all minimal installations with near actual drivers and DX 7 or higher: A) Notebook with Cyrix MediaGX 133 MHz with 32 MB RAM running Win 98 SE. Result: After 40 sec well running the sound begins to jerking completely. Plugins was not running at all. B) Notebook with Pentium 166 MHz with 80 MB RAM running Win 95. Result: WINAMP runs 90% well without any plugins activated. Mp3s with higher data rates are stuttering after a short time. Using of any plugins result in jerked and hacked sound. It seems that WINAMP needs now at least a P 200 MHz to run well without any plugins. A P 233 MHz seems to be required to use one playback plugin. Interesting was the issue that the PCMCIA network card did not had any influence on the play back! |
