Monogamy or Polygamy?

What are your views on Monogamy and Polygamy?

Do Christians have the right idea about monogamy, would it complicate things less?

Do the Muslims have a point in saying that many lonely women on the streets of Western streets could become a respectable happier person finding safety and comfort in a polygamous marriage?

:)

Well, if you're a male Hindu in the highest class, you can engage in massive kama sutra orgies. Otherwise, I believe monogomy is right due to my religion.

What kind of Muslims are telling you that? Most Turkish and Moroccan men here prefer to marry a girl from their own homeland and bring her over to Holland, instead of marrying a western girl with too much of her own will.

But to answer your question: monogamy is the only thing that will make you happy in the end (when you expect the same from your partner).

Most men practice polygamy by nature. Especially when they're married.

Joel 27th September 2003 20:14

I prefer monogamy. It's cool when you have one woman and is happy with you :)

It does sound nice, but he's lying.

I think that its best to stick with one person, you can tend to find a lot more happiness in that way.

Besides, imagine having 5 wives. The nagging...

Viper007Bond 27th September 2003 22:14

My agree Bilbo.

Germ 27th September 2003 22:21

I think that everyone gets tired of one person eventually and loses interest in them romantically, regardless of what they want personally as a moral and upright human being. That's why lots of marriages end and lots of the ones that don't, they are unhappy. And the ones that do last, are because the couples are highly religious and god fearing, but they probably never have sex either :)

And in your later post quite true, late at night just before bed i am a depressed, homicidal, human-race hating thing from hell and i want the earth nuked. But i wake up and everything is in a different perspective. Your state of mind always reflects your views on things. Of course there are people who live by their routine and they fall deeply in love with someone who is the same way and they never tire of them. And good for them.

sammythemc 28th September 2003 01:18

I think naturally, men are polygamous by nature and women monogamous. However, isn't resisting ancient urges part of what separates us from the animals? I'd (at least try to) stay monogamous, but other people can do whatever the hell they want with themselves.

caitcid 28th September 2003 03:15

Meh..it is natural to pick new mates....just look what some of the animals in the animal kingdom do.

Why is it wrong if it is just a natural instinct?

Raz 28th September 2003 03:33

It is only wrong when someone gets hurt in the process. If all parties involved or affected in whatever is going on are aware and consenting then it is not anyones place to judge them.

ryan 28th September 2003 03:53

monogamy for me.

anubis2003 28th September 2003 04:25

I don't see any problems with polygamy. I doubt I'll ever practice it, but I still don't see any problems.

You misunderstood, they are using the argument that there is a load of unhappiness in the West, and many men go with loads of different women, they argue that if the man can treat all his wives with respect then it would be better if they married them too, protecting and loving her just as he loves his other wives.

Personally I don't see how one or the other are wrong.
People who say "I believe that monogamy is right and polygamy is not because that's what my culture / religion says" I ask this question, why does it make it wrong? What is your definition of wrong? Morals that have been passed down to you or can you actually justify why you feel polygamy is wrong other than using an argument from the bible.

For myself, I would rather be in a monogamous marriage, because I want to the find the one person I love and be with them for the rest of my life.

Wouldn't it be possible that these 'many lonely women on the Western streets ' are very happy being single at that moment? And would they/you really think these women would be happier sharing a man with 3 others? Why not take a western man with only a relatively small chance he will cheat on her? The men that go with 'loads of different women' are easy to identify and are always picked by the women that go with 'loads of different men'.

Now would it matter then whether religion is involved or not? Yes, because I think it is unfair that a Muslim woman can not have 4 men. So it's pure discrimination.

apollos 28th September 2003 19:14

I am saying that that is the argument that could be used for SOME unmarried, and / or unhappy people who fall in love with another guy. No discrimination.

Great Samuel L. Jackson imitation there Apollos!:D
hehehhehehe

WomanOfHeart 28th September 2003 19:40

I think it's all a matter of preference. If a guy wants more than one wife, or a woman wants more than one husband, then more power to them. I think some people could be very happy with that kind of arrangement.
Personally, I prefer monogamy. I'm just a "one guy" kind of girl.

apollos 28th September 2003 20:37

^^ agree 100%ly with that :) Do what you want and dont let society / narrow minded people tell you otherwise (well other than the restricting law) :D

Widdykats, I have to do it:
