The worst singers of all time?

I nominate:

Johnny Rotten (largely for his work with P.I.L.)
Bernard Sumner
Alex Lifeson (which is why he plays guitar)
Matey from the Smashing Pumpkins (Zwan is it)?

Mr_007 3rd October 2003 10:00

Any signer isnt bad!
also only has a smaller knowledege of sign or music!

Triton4 3rd October 2003 10:45

Perhaps Nirvana... but I really can't judge them.

orac 3rd October 2003 11:14

Shane MacGowan

Cylob 3rd October 2003 11:16

Matey from Reef (I can't be bothered to look-up the name).

zootm 3rd October 2003 12:24

me. :)

the girl in kittie is rubbish, too.

NJK 3rd October 2003 12:37

billy idol - bad voice the videoclips had to do it for him

orac 3rd October 2003 13:01

Ian Brown

Cylob 3rd October 2003 13:36

Ian Brown's a great singer. One of the best!!!! We're talking Stone Roses here!!!!

orac 3rd October 2003 14:33

no he is not...

we are talking (the very overated) Stone Roses here!!!

Cylob 3rd October 2003 14:46

2 immense works:

Slightly overated, but great none-the-less

Very underated, Ian Brown's voice is great (as always).

orac 3rd October 2003 14:57

you're having a laugh...

next you will be saying Gene are good!

Cylob 3rd October 2003 15:06

I admit, Martin Rossiter's voice takes a little getting used to (he's like a singing sheep). Nonetheless, this is a great album:

Gene - Olympian (1995)

From the singing sheep and his guitarist

orac 3rd October 2003 15:08

i got that cd (orig) for £1.00 (no joke)...

Cylob.. will you refund my money?

Cylob 3rd October 2003 15:11

Don't knock it!!!! It's a great album, one of the best from the "Britpop" era.

mrym 3rd October 2003 15:24

yoko ono...

NJK 3rd October 2003 16:09

also there's nina hagen from germany - only screams

Merlin 3rd October 2003 17:43

Pelle Almqvist from The Hives.

Starbucks 3rd October 2003 17:50

Hey I like the Hives. :(

Cylob 3rd October 2003 18:31

I like the Hives. I suppose the singer's voice is dodgy, but it fits the music. So...

zootm 4th October 2003 00:25

henry rollins... i mean, he's ok, but he doesn't have much of a "range".

Oh, you are so on my list!:weird:

Wayne Coyne - The Flaming Lips - is not a very good singer, but I don't count being a poor singer as a bad thing. Sometimes, its in the attitude and the emotion. Coyne always states that he is bad singer, but dosen't care because he loves to sing.

hhhmmmm, I'll have to add the late, great Janice Joplin to the list as well and she certainly proves the above point.

I'd say the same about Nick Cave.

NJK 4th October 2003 08:24

like the dude that does the singing with the sisters of mercy- pretty much a one tone voice not much range

Cylob 10th October 2003 13:18

For me that's part of New Order's charm. Bernard saying "stuff convention" and coming out with the worst vocal's of the 80's. I love the stuff.

Also, their appearance on TOTP for Blue Monday has to be one of the worst live performances ever. But I love it! I almost think they screwed-up on purpose.

Reportedly, it was the first live performance in the history of this show, they said they would suck at pretending to play and sing, so they decided to do it for real :D

What do you mean by 'stuff convention' ?

Cylob 10th October 2003 15:12

The 1983 convention of the polished pop record. I liked the charts in '83, if I was given Power, Corruption & Lies at the time I'd have binned it after the first track. It was probably the furthest you could get from New Wave.

I appreciate Bernard's attitude now, there shouldn't be any rules for music. You can even produce your own work!

lil vixen 11th October 2003 00:05

SlipKnot. His lyrics are great . though he can not sing for shit!

Cylob 11th October 2003 07:27

Wait til Taylor sees that (though I have to agree).

I can't stomach Alanis Morisette, I loathe that woman's voice!!!! Apparently she's at the top of the female vocalists tree, but I'd place her at the bottom (to be used as a foot-stool). You'd see PJ Harvey's footprints all over her face.:)

Phil collins -

from 1985 until 1988 i lived in an appartment building- the guy who was living on the first level used to get drunk every weekend and had a record player with a continues play button on it- you get it i hope now- had to listen whole nights to this one song of phil called "againt all odds"

Widdykats 11th October 2003 14:07

Great image....Stop!Just stop it! You're driving me cRaZy!:igor:

Cylob 11th October 2003 14:10

You poor sod Nick! I'm not keen on Collins myself, his voice lacks range. I have 3 of his 80's hits, that's plenty.

lil vixen 11th October 2003 19:47

Shaggy, he's another one who I can not stand

When ne member of a boy-band(No matter of a hottest boy-band or not) tries 2 be a solo singer if the band is over or almost over .........he becomes the worst singer of all.'Cause ppl just don't take them in the same way!& c how quickly he falls from the top of the world.
Do i need 2 give ne examples?.
(So if u r a member of a boy-band try ur best 2 keep it tied.Still if it breaks don't even think of becoming a solo singer.Do wtever u like ,if needed can ask 2 this forum.........just post a topic.)
