Maybe Shaggy and Alanis should do a duet. It'd probably be no.1 for 10 weeks, the suicide rate would treble.....

Gwenyth Paltrow, girlfriend needs to stick with the acting gig. A friend made me watch about 30 minutes of her karokee movie. I killed him. May he burn in hell for that one.

Did you catch that torturous crap she was in??? Took me forever to get that screeching out of my head. Joey, I know you're lurking here! You're still on my shit list for that one. Requires heavy duty bribery to get off! :D

Kurt Cobain
Eminem(if you had the sever misfortune to listen to his latest album, you'll know what I mean) |
i completely disagree with the Alanis stuff, she is really good! but i can understand why people wouldn't like her voice i guess.
One person i can't stand is Justin Timberlake. |

The worst singers ? Just about, no, not just about, EVERY Serbian/Bosnian turbofolk singer. You're all damn lucky you don't have to listen any of that crap. |
Emir Kusturica? :D

My nomination is Rob Smith from the Cure. I don't get why so many people like him so much or even the band as a whole for that matter. |
I like Robert Smith's voice, it's instantly distinguishable and works with the music (the music being the ocean, the voice being the vessel). Suede, The Smiths are other examples.
I can't stomach an abrasive or overbearing voice that works against the tune (ie; Smashing Pumpkins). |
What you say about Smith is true Cylob, but his voice has deterioriated over the years (just watch the Trilogy DVD if you can, it's blatant) and on the last album, he yelled more than he sang, which surely doesn't help.

Turbofolk consists mostly of badly played random local one/twostring instruments, badly played harmonica, and very simplistic and idiotic electro drum beat. With maybe some lame electro melody thrown in. And of course a wailing male or female "singer", "singing" about... well, nothing sensible really. The lyrics are always idiotic. And it's irritating to everyone except for hicks, who play it very loudly from their cars/in their...khm....watering holes, weddings, etc. If you want an example that's actually listenable without wanting to smash your speakers or kill yourself, get this. I know these guys, and they're intentionally making thrash music. It's not true to the style (thankfully), but comes close in some ways (including the black person saying some crappy thing sample being repeated a lot). http://www.serifiaca.burne.org/zlakrcma.mp3 |

No, no, no. The The is original and very listenable. That stuff I'm talking about definitely isn't. The beats aren't minimalistic, but rather plain, boring and unimaginative (and don't change at all during the entire song).

I don't mind Robbie William's voice that much, it's just more his attitude that pisses me off. I don't like him. |
Cylob:
"For me that's part of New Order's charm. Bernard saying "stuff convention" and coming out with the worst vocal's of the 80's. I love the stuff. Also, their appearance on TOTP for Blue Monday has to be one of the worst live performances ever. But I love it! I almost think they screwed-up on purpose." Yeah that's always been part of the charm of NO for me, but I have to say that Barney is starting to get a bit embarrassing these days with his whooping and so on. And he's also turning into a fat bastard. Too much time on his yacht I think. Forget about the Blue Monday performance on TOTP, I actually like it, did you see them doing JetStream on Jonathan Ross?? That was really atrocious... |
Yep, they've really stepped over the line. :D
Tying in with a recent thread, the voice of a 1,000 strong cat-fight (in a round, tiled room): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ns-MCISera.jpg Also, I had no idea Iggy Pop had joined SP ^^. |
You seem to be enjoying your abuse of the Smashing Pumpkins. You already mentioned them in your first post anyway, why bring it up again?

And it can't be the whiny part of their singing style since he likes The Cure, nor the grating part since he likes Rush. Maybe the combination of both? Personally I find Billy Corgan a lot more bearable than, say, the guy from Creed. |
I don't think I'd use the word "grating" to describe Geddy Lee - he's high pitched, right enough, but it's not like a screech or anything.
|
Geddy has a limited range, which he stays inside rather well. Rush are innovators, unlike Smashing Pumpkins, who walked the same straight line for their meaningless existence.
It's not just the voice, it's the combined fact that everyone on the planet loves 'em (bar 2-3 people), they have a shit singer, the lyrics are angst-by-numbers, the music is more of a drone than anything. And most importantly of all, they're just shite. :p |
I don't find Rush that innovative either. To me they sound a lot like Yes. :p
|
I can take it that you discovered Yes before Rush!
It's always a tragedy when that happens. :D |
I blame certain family members for that. :hang:

Not saying they're not good, they're great, but still. |
I can't agree more. Rush successfully changed with the times and broke into many a genre (without it being obvious).
I can't think of many bands that rival their range. |
It's just that chronologically Yes came before Rush so if anything they invented that 'style'.

... Course, as much as I like them, after hearing the same songs over and over for 8 hours I'll probably hate them tommorow night. |
8 hours of Corgan's enough to kill a man...
