Did you go military service?

Mu daddy is 63 years old. In iran we have low that any person that has a father with more than 60 years old, he can't go to military service. Fortunately I am exempt for going to military.

I have my exemption card.

What about you? Are you going to military service Or no your age is under 18 Or in your country going to military is not necessary for all Or you have exemption card like me?

Get voting for 7 days.:)

Nope and I never will join. It was a scary day though when I turned 18 and had to get on "the list". Good thing the chances of a draft ever occuring are a million to one these days.

And in case you didn't know, here in the States, going into the military is like getting a job. They pay you $50,000/yr and it's totally optional.

UpperKEES 4th October 2003 12:45

In The Netherlands it is optional now as well. Mandotory service ended in 1995 and I was one of the last to fulfil this duty as I just finished my studies. I didn't mind however, because I got an officers training and a job in IT at NATO, where I stayed for 7 years.

Starbucks 4th October 2003 12:52

In the States we still have to register for service, it's mandotory. But joining the military is totally optional in times of peace.

zootm 4th October 2003 13:16

there's no mandatory service in the UK. although if it did exist, i'd be exempt due to going to uni.

Mr_007 4th October 2003 13:16

No i dont going to military!;) :D

ElChevelle 4th October 2003 13:26

I put foot to ass for the Navy.
One of the best things I've ever done.

By the way, another shite poll that doesn't cover all the bases.

ertmann|CPH 4th October 2003 14:10

we have this strange system where you draw a number in a tombola, if it's under 20.000 the army owns you, if it's over you own yourself.... no i'm not kidding, it's exactly like a lottery

i drew number 22056 (and i still remember after 5 years :) )

Uh, what MOS were you thinking of??? Cause the pay for enlisted members (not officers) is crap. My dad was a Senior NCO and he made just a little over two grand a month, and he was in the intelligence sector.

But, no, I couldn't survive in the military. I'd spend all day just checking out the guys.

Vie 4th October 2003 19:43

UK as stated, nolonger insists on servise.

And if they tried it, oh boy would they will wish they hadn't botherd. Total noncopliance will send most plumped up egomaniacs off there rocker.

Joel 4th October 2003 19:44

In México you register when you get at 18 years old.
It's mandatory, but you go like a lotto:
If you get a white ball, you stay. If you get a black ball, you'll wait until a year for the card.

mikm 4th October 2003 19:48

I am not old enough to get drafted, but if I do, I will probably get 4-Fd (exempt for physical/medical reasons) for a screwed up back and other genetic muscular problems.

ROFL!!! HAHAHAHA! This is like a torture.I can imagine 18 year guys sweating and shaking with their white as snow hands in a hat drawing a number that will send them or to hell or to heaven.Good think military service is optional here in Romania and for a modest fee(50$) an examiner can say you have mental illness or something like that and get you off the army ;)

caitcid 4th October 2003 20:23

I will never join the army. I serve no country...and I wouldn't want to get all mind twisted if they country makes you go out and fight for a number of years.

Bilbo Baggins 4th October 2003 21:00

There is no actual conscription here in the UK, as Zootm said, but under different cicrumstances I would have been in the army now.

ElChevelle 4th October 2003 23:28

I'm waiting to hear from the French.....OH WAIT......they don't have a military:p

Well, they do....but their idea of high tech weaponry is to beat you to death with a croissant.

ShyShy 4th October 2003 23:39

That was a low blow, El. Wonder what Twilightseer thinks :D

Somebody fulfilling mandatory militairy service will never be sent abroad and fight. They just lack the appropriate training. And I don't know where you live, but I do hope that you defend your country & family when under attack. Desertion in war time is the only thing in the Netherlands that might lead to the lead penalty (militairy court only).

Nation Service as it was known ended a year before I was eligible. Most people I knew who did it had a good time though, and got to see the world a bit. My best mate had to do it, but when they discovered he was a farm boy he was excused all duties and spent his time looking after the colonel's pigs. You figure it.

And that's how they lure you in. Next thing you know, you're eating re-hydrated crap that supposedly passes for food, being yelled at, and getting pounced on by the shallow women who love men in uniform. Yeah tough life.

mrharhar 6th October 2003 04:24

I'm staying in Singapore now, and although I'm not included, it seems like the Singaporean system is the worst;
At 18 all men must spend 2 years training.
For the next few decades (until 50 or 60, I forget) they spend up to a month each year re-training.
I'm just glad I'm Indian, where we don't have anything of the sort.

shabaviz55 19th October 2003 10:13

I think exemption card is useful than the others.
