Why Is Pink For Girls?

Why is pink concidered a colour for girls?

Can anybody explain why society looks funnily at a guy wearing loads of pink and doesn't bat an eyelid if a girl was to wear it?

confusion ¬_¬

Widdykats 5th October 2003 14:07

Yo! Think Pink! :D
In N.Y. a lot of men...yes straight guys, too, wear Brooks Brothers ,
and Polo pink shirts :D

iomegajaz 5th October 2003 14:23

Pink is feminine. You know this.

Widdykats 5th October 2003 14:29

And pink is also "Old School" Ivy!
for men...Or sometimes called "preppy-pink":D
http://a248.e.akamai.net/7/513/2006/...29016_2684.jpg Tah Dah!:D

looks great on blonds, and light haired guys...or silver with tan!

eleet-2k2 5th October 2003 14:34

Pink is considered feminine because society has said that pink is delicate and dainty like girls, and blue is more masculine and tough. I love blue, jeans shirts, sweaters, blue owns, but pink is just fruitty.

Widdykats 5th October 2003 14:48

Upper Class, All Ivy kinda' Thing!
http://www.ferreri.freeserve.co.uk/t...ess_shirts.JPG Seeeeeeeeee!:D
Also "Preppy handbook":D

k_rock923 5th October 2003 14:53

no pink for me thanks. but i always wear black so i don't count

anubis2003 5th October 2003 15:03

Pink is definitely feminine as are all pastels(well, then there's hot pink, but that's even worse).

dlinkwit27 5th October 2003 15:07

In ancient times, it was believed that certain colours could combat the evil spirits that lingered over nurseries. Because blue was associated with the heavenly spirits, boys were clothed in that colour, boys then being considered the most valuable resource to parents. Although baby girls did not have a colour associated with them, they were mostly clothed in black. It was only in the Middle Ages when pink became associated with baby girls.

ShyShy 5th October 2003 16:39

I have been tramuatized by the huge amount of pink clothing that has been manufactured for little girls. Pink is not cool.

Germ 5th October 2003 16:41

I wear pretty pink panties when I feel sexy.

ShyShy 5th October 2003 16:43

I'm happy for you, really am.

No, I'm not, that has to be the most disturbing mental picture that has popped into my mind to date. Gee, thanks Germ :p

hgnis 5th October 2003 16:44

Why am I not suprised?
Pink = female, fruit or guy that was forced into wearing it by some chick.

UpperKEES 5th October 2003 16:48

Probably because it's not girls but gay people that come into mind first when I think about pink clothing. And they love it.....because it makes them look like girls. :p

UK

PS: Have to admit UpperKEES likes Widdy's Upper Class, All Ivy kinda' Thing!

Widdykats 5th October 2003 17:01

real story why guys got blue and girls got pink..

boys where covered in blue because they where considered to come of heaven, aka the sky

girls where given pink because they came from the earth
aka earthy tone like pink

it was a way to protect the children using their place of origin colors in a way.

as far as pink, both men and femes can wear it, just look at past stiles, its really all about culture and the times, a few years from now pink will be in for men again, and blue has always been available to girls thank goodness ;) :)

Also this color things is mainly a USA things ( but I could be wrong) cause other countries could care less about pink and blue with gender.
its all about how u carry yourself

ShyShy 5th October 2003 19:53

Ahh, but one must remember Robert Redford in "The Great Gatsby". His confidence made the pastels work for him :D

All the Power guys in N.Y. wear that "Power Pink" shirt
by Brooks. Blonds look snap-pay in certain pinks. (Pastels)
black haired and dark brown wear Thomas Pink type shirts
(the pink with undertones of blue). :D
