List your favourite boy bands:

I use the term 'boy band' loosely, I'm referring to music industry poodles. My favourite boy band then:

U2

sidd 23rd October 2003 11:28

rofl

Cylob 23rd October 2003 12:03

Incidentally, U2 are nothing but a cheap imitation of The Alarm.

Anyway, I really must do some work.:(

U2 have been around alot longer than Mr Peters & Co.

You need to hear the U2 albums POP, Achtung Baby and Zooropa for a bit of diversity..

some key tracks from the above:

zoo station
the fly
mofo
do you feel loved
until the end of the world

etc.

sorry orac , but we disagree on this .

I think that those albums are the worst ones U2 ever made.

for me U2 is "war", "boy", "red rock" and "october" then they went mainstream and the sharpness was out of their songs.

apola_anamisha 23rd October 2003 13:55

Boy-bands, wow!Thankx Cylob.
But you call U2 a boy-band...........Oh boy!
Lemme tell you who are the real boy-bands..........though I like to listen all sorta boy-bands stuffs,my all time favorites are
Westlife
MLTR
BSB
Boyzone
Savage Garden
Nsync
5ive

But that doesn't mean they haven't emulated The Alarm at various stages in their career.

It could be argued that Mike Peters was U2's best songwriter.:p

apola_anamisha 23rd October 2003 14:44

I am 18 but.Why?5ive has anything to do with ages?
They rock everyone!
(We will, we will rock you-5ive)

Cylob 23rd October 2003 14:51

What was the other big hit 5ive had? Their first one? I can't remember it, something about hitting the ceiling?

Pity that was an old Queen song though.:p

apola_anamisha 23rd October 2003 15:21

Hitting the ceiling...........well, I am not getting it
Lemme tell you some of 5ive's hit songs
Closer to me
When the light goes out
Breakdown
If ya getting down
Keep in moving
Everybody get up
Its the thing u do
Don't wanna let you go..............

Cylob 23rd October 2003 16:21

Ah, it was 'Got the Feelin'' from their debut:
http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...215455a7d4.jpg

'If you've got the feelin, jump up to the ceiling, 5ive will make you feel alright. La la la la la la....'

NJK 23rd October 2003 16:23

seems to me that's the most used lyric by boybands "la la la la la"

hgnis 23rd October 2003 16:41

I knew the teeny booper thread would show up sooner or later.
btw: U2 is nowhere one of those Boi "Bands".
damn kids.:weird: :blah:

ShyShy 23rd October 2003 17:04

Ohhhh, cool. It takes a "real" man to even say boy-band with a straight face.

Heh, here's my list:
Boys II Men (funny thing is, I just saw their GH's cd at Target the other night, didn't they only have like 4 albums? :weird: )

Oh, oh, and all 25 million re-incarnations of Menudo. They're sooo cheesy, it's great :D

NJK 23rd October 2003 17:29

only recall "end of the road" by boys II men. remember it because it was released a week after I left the Bitch, and played almost every hour on every radio station in the Netherlands ( drove me mad!!!!)

sidd 23rd October 2003 21:28

actually.. i do remember liking one of the first savage garden tracks.. That one about flying some bitch to the moon.... and back.

dont tell anyone

marvinbarcelona 23rd October 2003 21:59

....hhhhhmmmm....do Bon Jovi count? I used to like them, I was about 16 at the time.

sidd 23rd October 2003 22:05

hey meeeee tooooo..

apola_anamisha 24th October 2003 04:43

Excuse me..........Savage Garden has some other wonderful tarcks except To the moon...........c'mon siddhartha_one Savage Garden is your local (x)-boyband don't be that rude to them. How can someone be rude with those two wonderful boyz? They have(had?) great voice, great appearance, graet enthusiasm........every single thing that one ideal boy-band needs.
Anywayz Cylob, do you like cricket?England is playing with our team in our country..........ha ha ha I think England plays lil better than Bangladesh.

sidd 24th October 2003 04:54

I dunno.. maybe i dont like them because they suck.. but im sure there are other reasons.

Savage garden are an insult to the australian people. And an even bigger insult to the REAL Daniel Johns (not Jones) from silverchair.

Cylob 24th October 2003 05:50

Savage Garden are a disgrace to Australians. They've shattered the 'rough and tough' image for all eternity. Or was that Neighbours and Home & Away????

Another boy band, Simple Minds:
http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/pic...16388n048b.jpg

Did you mention cricket apola? I can't stand the game, it's a bit boring, not nearly as exciting as football (have you heard of Liverpool)? Did you know, more people climb Ben Nevis each year (highest mountain in the UK) than watch test cricket matches. It's something straight out of the victorian era, it loses popularity each year.

How about they play cricket on ice (make it more exciting)? Then, the canadians would thrash everyone.

apola_anamisha 24th October 2003 07:46

Lol Cylob...........cricket is still the most poplar game in the sub-continent.But this test match is really one of the fucken' boring matches I've ever seen.I was thinking of going to the stadium but as the match is going,I've 101 ways to waste my(dad's) money than to buy the tickets.
And Liverpool.........what the hell do you think of me?I've never heard of them!I am a blind supporter of Real Madrid(oh boy! Raul is so cool!).I used to like Man U too ,but no more ........ I think you can guess why!
Do think twice before telling something against Savage garden........they are the most populer music tycoon from Australia in the music industry after Air Supply & Bee gee.

Being popular means nothing to me apola, it's the quality of the music that counts. None of the bands I listen to are popular right now.... Why? Because they're not throw-away pop acts with an instantly likeable sound.:) I think I'd rather be beaten up (quite badly) than listen to Savage Garden.

Cylob 24th October 2003 08:13

Ah, a popular quote Nick.

standing ovation on this side of the Northsea cylob

right now Johan Timman is playing in the cd-player.
Almost nobody knows this album and it isn't a popular album but for me it's a quality work from the 80's.

Cylob 24th October 2003 08:30

I have the album - 'A Trip Through the Body' is it?? It's on CDR right now (not an inch of HD space left). However, I'll be acuiring 80GB more today. Hoooooorah!!!!!!!

Death by music.

I think it is actually "Baby"

My favorite Boy Band is Conan O Brien's boyband, "Dudez a plenti" That is, "Dudez with a Z, Plenti with an I, and the a... well theres nothing you can do with that." It was artificially created by first considering all the males on the planet, until they were narrowed down to 5 people.

Those 5 people were then conditioned to be Dudez a Plenti. They are reimbursed with Ritz Crackers when they obey conan's orders.

Their Hit Song:
Baby, I Wish You Were My Baby
===

Baby, I wish you were my baby
I'll make you make a baby
Let's make electric power
In fear you should not cower
Cuz girl I will protect you
I promise not to sex you
Ahhhhhh.....
I wish you were my baby
I wish you were my baby
I wish you were my baby
I wish you were my baby
Baby
===

See the creation of Dudez a Plenti, and their performance of their hit song:

If you hate boybands, you will LOVE dudez a plenti. :p

nybergh 24th October 2003 09:14

Boy bands... My fav... well let's see... let me think
[lots o' brainwork]
[lots o' brainwork]
[lots o' brainwork]
[lots o' brainwork]
[lots o' brainwork]
[lots o' brainwork]
Ahh! It must be Led Zeppelin! :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:

You are so right Xerxes.

Also, most of the words have 1 or 2 sillables. Keep it simple so the pre-teens can follow the plot. But let's face it, the pre-teen dollar's what it's all about.

SPR, Crowded House is actually a Kiwi/NZ band, not Australian.

And since you all consider Savage Garden as a 'boy-band', I might just as well include their single 'I want you':

http://www.swr3.de/pix_s/cover/200x175/4104.jpg

Cylob 24th October 2003 11:01

That's your standard-issue boy band cover Triton:

1) Pretty boys with the hair and *the look*.
2) The title, "I want you".

Says it all. Also, is the pretty boy on the right gay? Are they both gay?

nybergh 24th October 2003 11:04

Savage Garden's collection is the only record of a boyband that I've managed to listen through. They even have some really beatiful melodies, and I really like "Tears of Pearls".

Jeeez man, what more can you expect from that??? That was the only SG cover I could find on the net. If you have something else, then post them & shut up.

Cylob 24th October 2003 11:24

Nothing wrong with the choice of cover (chum). I was saying boy band covers have the same criteria:

1) Pretty boys with the hair and *the look*.
2) The title, "I want you".

Which proves to me that Savage Garden are a bona fide boy band. 100%.

apola_anamisha 24th October 2003 14:05

Looks like you've to change the topic Cylob.........
What 'bout "How well is Savage Garden as a boy-band?"

orac 24th October 2003 14:06

some of the early u2 mentioned is classic stuff (October etc.) but I really consider The Joshua Tree very overated, its U2's Automatic for the People.. Achtung Baby is far better.. but the albums are in dire need of remastering..

Cylob 24th October 2003 14:15

You post the thread apola.:) I will certainly jump in with my views.
