The Selling of MP3 CD's to the Public

Now that I own 2 stereos that are MP3 compatible and there are several on the market, why is there no MP3 CD retailing happening?
It'd be perfect for box sets and such.
I feel like a tree root for asking but...........

the industry is still afraid of this particular avenue of the market.

ElChevelle 24th October 2003 17:39

It's not like it's a major hurdle to burn to a disc once they're downloaded.
I'd buy the discs if they sold them as long as they didn't ask 10 times the price of a standard audio CD.

you lose audio quality man. i need full kbps.

ElChevelle 24th October 2003 18:39

The only loss I suffer is the audio above and below human audibility:p

liquidmotion 24th October 2003 18:47

you can't see it but you know it's there, so don't neglect it.

It's difficult to copy-protect MP3s.

k_rock923 24th October 2003 19:07

i think that aitch hit the nail on the head. with the industry trying to curb piracy, the last thing they would do is relase mp3's into the market. whatever copy protection they can think of will inevitably be broken and the supply of illegal mp3's will only rise.

*disclaimer* i'm not saying i don't download songs. i do just as much as anyone.

ElChevelle 24th October 2003 21:08

So, how about a different variant of an MP3 so that they can release more than just your standard CD ie. "Seems like an awful waste of space"

Mike H. 24th October 2003 23:55

That would work, but it would have to be unreadable by a computer, or at least by any ripping software. And you would have to replace your MP3 CD players.

ElChevelle 25th October 2003 00:18

True:(

Guess I keep burning away.

Why sell something ready made to be pirated?

Furthermore, why sell 50 songs on 1 CD when you can sell 50 songs on a 4 CD compilation.

Plus, there's issues with quality as stated.

Portable Hard Drive Technology all the way!
CD's and DVD's are just soo annoying' they don't last long without be scratched and they don't hold much. Why can't they make something like 40gbHD's that play audio files like a walkman for about $200AU or do they wan't to slowly release this onto the market and just sell evey piece of crp they can!?!
A watch the plays Mp3's would be good though'

I dunno, maybe people think its cooler to have your audio and video on spinny discs. I really don't see why CDs and DVDs haven't gave way to multi-GB mini flash drives yet...

because flash drives cost more than 10 cents to mass produce.
