What's this doing in my collection?

Do you have strange dust-covered albums sitting in your collection? Records you've played once or twice and then forgotten about (for years)? I have (ahem) quite a few. Like:

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Spanish Dance Troupe
A Tribe Called Quest - Beats, Rhymes and Life
Man or Astroman - Intravenous Television Continuum

I have at least 100 other non-eventers.

NJK 27th October 2003 10:28

klaatu-hope
Joe Egan - out of nowhere ( he and Gerry Rafferty were steelers wheel)
M-popmuzik

sidd 27th October 2003 10:29

lol

i have many that im too embarressed to tell.

incl 4x Oasis
1x Elton John
2x metallica

//edit

ahhhh. you mean really weird looking ones that you dont remember buying..

i looked.. i found "lets do it on the road"
a crazed up collection of beatles cover version. Its prety fucking weird.

Cylob 27th October 2003 10:43

4 x Oasis??????????

Elton John????

sidd 27th October 2003 10:56

Oh god.. i feel like such a wank.

OK! i didnt buy the elton john, my ex-gf had it, and i stole it.. god knows why...

I stole the two metallica ones from an ex flat mate.

I bought oasis - whasastorymo'glo', and liked it, then saw the other three for 3$(au) each second hand, and bought them. OK!?!?!

be honest cylob - there are some albums in your collection from the days of your childhood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! either you are to shy to tell us or you blocked them out of your memory because of the shame you feel about ever buying those albums:p

Perhaps you mistook it for something else??? No doubt you'd been on the wine at the time.:) So, it can be overlooked... I would've ejected it.

To make you feel better sidd, I have in my possession The Bee Gees - Greatest Hits. I have an alibi - it was an xmas gift. But you can imagine my delight.:p There are 3 good tracks on it though.

No, I've always had impeccable taste Nick.

NOT
:(

NJK 27th October 2003 11:13

first album i ever payed for myself was "cronicle"by creedence clearwater revival - don't feel any shame on that part because ccr is a very good band - seen John Fogertty play 2 years ago in Groningen (opening act for Tina Turner) left halfway the Tina concert because John was the better part of the gig

Cylob 27th October 2003 11:30

Leaving halfway through a gig takes a degree of courage.:) But then I can't imagine Tina Turner's fans being agressive (far from it). Come and have a go.......

I've heard of 'Creedance Clearwater Revival' (ridiculous, elongated name), but I'd never consider hearing it. Weird shit from the 70's (and there was much of it).

my first ever album was pet shop boys - very

my second ever album was bon jovi - crossroads

Cylob 27th October 2003 14:24

I couldn't quite make out the second album....

Did you buy 'Very' for the trendy packaging sidd? (I'll have the one with the knobbly bits). It's one crap album inside, well below standard for PSB.

I don't envy you though.:) I won't even start on the hair, bell-bottoms, long collars and extra-wide flowery ties. I just hope such attire never makes a comeback.

execpt for the ugly things you stated just now - it gave us some wonderfull music.

Cream - Buffalo Springfield - jimmy Hendrix - the Who all started in the 70's

It's the attire that puts me off. If someone looks daft how can you take their music seriously??? At least in the 80's people stopped wearing their grandma's curtains.:) The make-up was questionable though.

NJK 27th October 2003 14:59

Bowie is a nice example is you talk make up- the ziggy stardust time.

Btw I never was wearing anything from that time as you know i'm only 5 years older then you are. far to young to remember anything from 1970-1975 being between 5 and 10 years of age is not the time when you hang around the radio to listen more the time to play outside with the other boys in the neighbourhood

marvinbarcelona 27th October 2003 18:54

I wish I was one of those people who could quietly push their 'mistake' purchases into the bin...but I can't. I convince myself that there is some redeeming feature in it, I just have to look hard enough, play it every so often, to make sure I haven't missed anything....but there isn't....and I still can't throw it away...

My list of crimes against good taste;

Neil Diamond...The Jazz Singer (i don't know either  )
The Bee Gees...Live (why? why? A studio album isn't bad enough?)
Oasis - only two cds, thank god.
Metallica - & Just For All - which ain't too bad.....NO! I'm doing it again...

theres more....but thats enough group therapy for now. Mind you, there is a sense of perverse satisfaction from seeing the Dead Kennedys nestled next to Neil Diamond. DK'd cd whispering...."Hey! Diamond.....gonna kill you!"

taylormemer 28th October 2003 04:51

Ummm well I will regret sayinf ths, but.
Limp Bizkit (Limp Dickspit) My Generation
A few rap singles, why do I onw such shit, I'm deleting those right now acctually.

Twilightseer 28th October 2003 08:37

Cylob,

You hate "Very" ? It's one of PSB's best albums :D Heck how can you not like "Dreaming Of The Queen", "Young Offender", "Yesterday, When I Was Mad" and the others. Granted, there's this horrid cover of Go West but still ? :)

I have Pulp's infamous two cd "Greatest hits" (well from their first era). Couldn't get past song 3 on cd 1 :D Also, I have a cheap-ass compilation of Kool And The Gang "Greatest Hits Live". My sister wanted to discard some old cds she had and I ended with this one. Never listened to it (I'm too scared).

sidd 28th October 2003 09:15

i bought very because i heard the theater on radio.. i liked it soo much i had to buy the album.. i saved for about a month.

A bit of a purge going on at the Taylor household! Radical action takes guts. I'm of the same strand as marvin, in fact I don't delete anything anymore. I've ample HD space, I just tag it as being crap and leave it at that.

'seer,

I quite like Kool & the Gang. Brings back some great memories, respectable chart music. I did have 2 x Pulp albums, but I did the right thing and got shot of them. They lowered the tone of my collection (the but end of Brit-Pop).

I've never been keen on 'Very' at all. The PSB's went far too poppy for my likings, more style than substance. Go West did alot to put me off. Also, the 'Young Offender' on New Order/Republic is far far better than the PSB track of the same name. I considered flogging Very on a few occasions, but it's still with me.

sidd 28th October 2003 10:11

well. i was pretty young when very came out. And i didnt really know trhe difference between poppy electronika and alternative elctronika.

Now i still love it because it brings back memories.. if i heard it for the first time now, i might not like it as much.

apola_anamisha 28th October 2003 12:33

Here we go-a1
One of my x-bfs gave it me that(what a bad choice!)thinking i'm lil bit influnced by the appearance of the boy-bands(wasn't wrong tho!)

& 'bout all the debate 'bout the very first album.........You guys never played nursery rhymes did you?I can remember my first ever album was twinkle twinkle lil star...........

Twilightseer 28th October 2003 12:36

"Young Offender" by New Order, that one was a weak track. Republic was the beginning of the end for NO, even though half of the album was great.
Guess I'm getting tired of Sumner & Hook ;)

I'll have to disagree on both counts 'seer.

Young Offender's a great track from a great album. It's almost as good as Electronic/Electronic. Almost.

Also, I don't believe the end's in sight for NO. Unlike the Cure or PSB, they haven't released a crap album yet. A great body of work...

orac 28th October 2003 15:11

Get Ready is a stunning album by all counts...

Cylob 28th October 2003 15:15

Quite.

New Order are a great electronic band but also a great rock band. I can say the same about Primal Scream...

i own every bon jovi album on cd, and both of jon's solo ablums, and the only reason i don't have ritchies cd's is becasue i havent had the money to buy them. i only recently finished my bon jovi cd collection, as i had from bon jovi-new jersey only on tape. and i was looking through my cds and i found a pokemon cd :p it was copied tho, so it wasnt so bad, and i was like 11. still depressing tho.

Staying with Bon Jovi Outlaw, what was the title 'slippery when wet' referring to??

You actually thought "Slow Jam" was good ?

Cylob 29th October 2003 08:04

It is possible to pick holes in Get Ready (it's not watertight). However, there are tracks like 'Crystal' and 'Someone Like You' which are far superior to anything on Bloodflowers.:)

slippery when wet came about while bon jovi were in a strip club, and the girls got themselves all wet and covered in soap and stuff, well, something like that.
