Thoes arent centuries, thoes are decades.

Centuries are every 100 years, thus: 2000's, 1900's, 1800's. Decades are 10 years.

Basicall, you should've answered "20th and 21st centuries".

richardharris 30th October 2003 03:43

I know, i write complete the years to make explicit the question... however its not sane to ask what century... could i talk about XI century music by decades??????? ha ha

Maybe i forgot to put 1920 for charleston and 1900 for ragtime!!

Fickle 30th October 2003 04:08

60's...and then a jump to the 90's. The eighties sucked, and so did disco.

apola_anamisha 30th October 2003 04:11

90's.........definitely.........the goldaen era of boy-bands!

Dammit! I liked that pair!

richardharris 30th October 2003 04:16

no,no... you cant vote for 90s alone.. its not fair!!!!
dont tell me that Back shit Boys are good!!!!!!!!!

60s, 70s and 80s are good option, 90s are not!!

BullGawD 30th October 2003 04:31

Then why, pray tell, did you make it an available one?

Fickle 30th October 2003 04:35

<3 BullGawD.

whiteflip 30th October 2003 04:36

70's 80's 90's :)

horse-fly 30th October 2003 04:53

80's

you have your depeche mode, the cure, aha, yazoo, new order, human league, nine inch nails, u2, blondie, police, real life, erasure, rem, etc...

and harold faltermeyer - shakedown, the ever soooo popular beverly hills cop theme.

in fact i must go get short slacks in shades of neon, pink, and radioactive green

BullGawD 30th October 2003 05:06

lets not forget Falco.

corkhead0 30th October 2003 05:18

And all the great speed/thrash metal that came out of the 80's.

Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Metal Church, Sepultura, Testament...

cmountford 30th October 2003 05:22

80's-->lots of great music

sidd 30th October 2003 05:51

i know that people will disagree, but 90's has divercity. Alternative 90's music didnt seem to be caught down in any particular trend or movement.. no matter what style of music you are after, there are hundreds of amazing bands that fill.

While saying this, il admit i did have to think about it alot.. 60's was to insignificant. 00's dont count yet. 80's were fucking amazing, and prolly wil win the poll. 70's came very close.

All of my fave bands are from the 90's, and im into alot of music from all of these decades.

Xerxes 30th October 2003 06:48

Definitely the 80's and 90's - 1780's and 90's that is. This was classic age of classical music- Mozart, and an emerging Schubert/ Beethoven.

Cylob 30th October 2003 07:29

I'll do better than decades and pick years:

1980-85
1991-92
1995-96
1999
2001-03

I'd love to elabourate, but there's this huge pile of work staring me out.:(

NJK 30th October 2003 07:37

1965 - 1990

after 1990 I ended keeping up with new release. only released cd's of my fav groups are still kept update.
when rap, house and that kinda music started i turned off the old radio.

Cylob 30th October 2003 11:18

Well, 1989 was when the mainstream went pants, and alternative took over. I'd say 1991 was the best ever year for music, there was a band starting-up every week. Having said that, 1994 and 1997-2000 (half of the 90's) were dire. More style than substance.

2001-03 have picked-up sharply, but nothing that's any good makes it into the mainstream. Journals like NME are slow to catch on as well.

Harold Faltermeyer did the "Axl F. theme" while Bob Seger did "Shakedown" for the sequel.

You'll get a variety of answers to any favorite era due mainly to the fact that your experiences during any given era lend a great deal in the factor of like/hate.
For example, I love music from all decades although I had the most fun and best memories during/while listening to 80's rock.
I had the fantasy of going back so I could relive the music of that decade but then realized it was the times themselves that I loved.

marvinbarcelona 30th October 2003 18:26

@siddhartha_one : the 60's insignificant???????? Huh??????

There was great music from all those decades. I really can't choose one or two.

sidd 30th October 2003 19:26

well, when i say insignificant, i mean there was less to choose from, and less greatness about then in all the other decades. Simply because the music industry is a far bigger thing nowdays.

Quite. The beauty about 2003 is you have everything new and everything that's gone before at your disposal. Sometimes I don't know if that's good or bad though, the choice is bewildering.

BullGawD 31st October 2003 13:59

Here's the (broken) code for my previous post:

[font=sarcastic icing] lets not forget Falco. [font]

I guess not everybody has that font. :p

Anway. I agree to Xerxes and and Cylob (good years, Cy).

Let's not forget the jazz era though. Hmmm. Autumn Leaves calls me this morning.... :)

zootm 31st October 2003 19:39

this one. because there's still the potential for music as good and original as in all the decades preceding it - and you won't have heard this stuff before.

taylormemer 1st November 2003 02:19

OK well I have music from 60,s to now, so all for me.

randman 1st November 2003 20:46

Everything from the 70's to the present was influenced in some way by the music of the 50's and 60's. That's when rock and pop were born. That would make the 60's the most important decade in rock music. It was also the best in my opinion.

that can be said about any era of music, where rocl music eventually evolved out of mozart or even banging rocks on peoples heads

Fickle 2nd November 2003 01:58

wait, wasn't the 60's the beatles, hendrix, santana, woodstock, etc? or was that the seventies? Yes I forget, yes I was born in the 80's and except for a few songs, I hate most of the music from the decade of my birth.

Quite so. But I assumed we were talking about contempory music here, given the decade choices presented by richardharris. I think the decades of the Baroque Era (1600 to 1750) were probably the best decades in music. And Baroque was a definite influence on the Beatles.

Specifically, the emergance of one man: Bach, whose musical ideas set the entire western world on a different course. (musically) Remember: the Baroque era ends on his death year for a reason.

richardharris 3rd November 2003 15:30

Did you think that the 90s are winning because the age of the ppl here answering?
